Battery goes dead

The battery recently died out riding one night , i barely made it home with really dim yellow lights, even the digital dash went blank. i recharged the battery and everything was fine for two days ,until i noticed the lights getting dimmer according as i was riding . i thought maybe the battery was faulty, so the next day since it wouldnt turn, over i boosted it with my truck. it started right away , so i strapped my trucks battery to the rack and ran two wires connecting both batteries ,then went for a ride. both batteries died , so it is obvious that whatever charges the battery is not working. WHAT PART IS IT AND WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your post/description indicates two possibilities:

  • faulty the voltage regulator (most likely);
  • loose/corroded connectors (likely);
  • faulty alternator/stator (least likely).
Depending on the country of manufacture and/or the country of intended use, the voltage regulator would look something like the image below.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

I'm driving a chevrolet aveo 2010 . In the middle of no where last night it went dim than to dark. It was runing ok this all time. Only sign shown was the engine. Didn't show any sign of battery.

well the battery is now dead (or only discharged !)
cause #1 ALT/Gen replaces WRONG, see here 10,000 times. more www.

driving a car the ALTERNATOR produces all Electrical power.
100amps x 13v is 1300watts, and runs ALL>
when it dies the battery is sucked dry/dead/ discharged.

1; remove neg lug from battery or BOOM (100amp fuse BLOWN)
2; remove ALT
3: new one back connected same.
4: battery NEG lug back
bingo no BOOM.!
every SM manual of every car tells that;.

you said didn't want to start
but I guess you meant starter is dead, or clicks only or will not spin fast as it must.

the 15mins is dead accurate, for 50 years driving seen this happen
as ALT goes dead at night,
in the day engine runs 30min to 1hour dead ALT , HEADS off

the blow fuse is just bay fuse
or worse, a fuseable link, oddity not fun to fix. ever.
thus step 1,

no engine told but let me look on uSA car thjis.
2010 not AVEO5

there it is but what it looks like, hummmmmm

My battery keeps dying but it a new one AAA Said it's the alternator drainging the battery

When you start your car turn your head lights on and see if they are really dim or your dash lights. Do it at night for better accuracy. If they seem very dim then it's you alternator.

Something is draining my battery 134,000 M

IT costs nothing to have a load test done on the battery to check for a dead cell which your problems point to. While the engine is running the alternator will be handling the power requirement but the battery will not supply the power required to start.

After a 2 hour ride out yesterday in daylight,i always turn my lights on to be seen when returned home switched engine off opened garage went to start bike again and completely dead has a data tool duo...

Might have 12.67 volts, but not enough amps to crank engine or light the lights properly. Try putting a charger on the battery, bring it to a full charge. Next, put a load tester on the battery to see if battery is weak or dead cell. If battery checks good, check the charging system. With engine running at idle, put volt meter on battery-read volts, then rev engine to high idle. Volts should climb higher than idle reading.

Dim dashboard lights and problem starting

Could be a loose or dirty battery connection, poor battery, or alternator. Check all the cables and connections to your starter. Clean your battery posts. Have your alternator and battery checked. It sounds like you are either running off just the battery or just the alternator. One of them is not right.
