Tire question Hi! I am looking to find out what seems to be the best tire for my 2000 R1100 RT I have about 45000 miles on the I just bought the bike last year with about 43000 miles on it. My mechanic says I can go for awhile yet but the front tire has some cupping on it. So I would prefer to start this season out with new tires. Can give me your thoughts on this?

Jacqui that would depend on the way you ride and/or the compound of the tyres. Soft compound may be safer if you are a hard rider, middle of the road compound if just ride for pleasure. I got 4000 kms out of a rear tyre on a 1981 Triumph Bonny.

Check the following:
Steering head bearings for play and looseness Front and rear tire pressures Front and rear wheel bearings for wear Rear fork bearings Also check over tires for irregular wear patterns that might be contributing to the loose feeling.

Did you change anything ... like putting stuff in a saddle bag? Different boots? Have you cheked air pressure in the tires? Are you sitting on the bike differently?

I'm leaning to tire pressure or uneven front tire wear and it does not have to be a lot of uneven tire wear to act in thismanner.

Find a tire shop that has a HUNTER GSP 9700 road force balancer. this puts a load on the tire and will find a bad tire, or rim, and it will tell the operator where the tire should be orientated on the wheel for best run out. If its a tire/wheel problem this will find it. Call a high end tire store or dealer and ask if they have one.

In short, BMW prices are directly proportional to the service history and condition.
Personally, I think $6200 is high. I bought a 2000 model RS with 15K miles for $3200, full service history, lots of factory extras - panniers, top box, tank bag, screen, seat, etc. It had a little road rash on one fairing panel, but that was $300 to put back to perfect.
I would expect to pay around $6K for a similar vintage LT, not an RT. IF it was mint, maybe 6K is the right price... I would look for between $4500-5500 for a tidy one - good tires/brakes, great exhaust, immaculate paint, full BMW service history, warranty.

I have a roadliner and have the same problem,they only offer two differant bad tires for our bikes,the dunlop and the bridgestone,you could bump up to a 200/55/17 it will fit and wont change the geometry of the bike.I have been waiting for avon to make tires to fit the bike.I havent heard of the conversion to an 18in tire,will have to look into this.
