Before draining the engine oil, you'll want to unscrew the oil filler cap (it's usually made of black plastic, with a raised twist tab.) Doing so will allow the oil to drain more quickly. If the cap is hard to reach or tightly screwed on, you might want to use needle-nose pliers.Place a pan or bucket under the engine and use a socket wrench to remove the drain plug, which is located on the underside of the oil pan. Be careful during the last few turns, as the oil-- which might be hot-- will start to spill out. IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to properly dispose of used oil at a qualified hazardous waste disposal facility. Dumping used oil is both illegal and harmful to the environment. The crush washer is an aluminum or copper disc designed to deform under pressure, which helps seal the oil drain plug. This part must be replaced after each oil change, and is seen here being separated from the drain plug. The tip of the drain plug is usually magnetic, in order to attract slivers of metal shed by the engine. While larger pieces are typically found during an engine's break-in period, don't be alarmed when smaller pieces routinely end up stuck onto the edge of the drain plug; just wipe them off with a clean rag. While the oil continues to drain, unscrew the oil filter using a filter removal tool, which reaches around what might be a tightly screwed in filter. Once the filter is off, make sure the filter's O-ring (a band of rubber that fits on the tip to ensure a secure seal) came off with the filter. In order to remove larger particulates, unscrew and remove the plastic mesh filter from the side of the engine case. First, wipe the mesh off with a clean rag so no particles remain. Then, if possible, blow smaller particles off with compressed air. While the drain plug, mesh filter, and oil filter holes on the engine are exposed, wipe them all down with a clean rag to remove any accumulated sludge, in order to ensure a tight seal. Every new oil filter comes with an O-ring; ensure it is seated snugly in the filter and spread a dab of motor oil around its top surface in order to ensure a tight seal. Then, using your hand, screw the new filter into the engine case. Be sure NOT to use a tool for this part; it's easy to over-tighten the filter and damage the O-ring when using a tool. Once the old oil is completely drained, which should take at least several minutes, use a clean rag to wipe down the drain hole and the mesh filter hole. Screw the oil drain plug (with a new aluminum crush washer) and the plastic mesh filter back into the case. Use the owner's manual (or markings on the engine) to find out the engine's oil capacity, fill it up with that amount-- minus about one half quart-- by placing a funnel into the oil filler hole. Screw in the oil filler cap and start up the engine. Let the engine idle for about a minute, then shut it off. After the engine has idled for about a minute, shut it off and wait another minute or so for the new oil to settle from the cylinder heads into the crankcase. Make sure the bike is perfectly level; if there is a rear stand attached to the bike, remove it so it rests flat on the ground. If the bike doesn't have a center stand, lift it off its kickstand so it sits up perfectly straight. Check the oil window on the side of the crankcase: if the oil is below the center line, top it off until it's perfectly centered. If it's already at the center, voila-- you've just successfully changed your oil!

SOURCE: how do i change my engune oil

Warm up the bike first. On Evolution Sportster's, be sure to change the filter the same time you change oil. The oil may be drained from the tank, by locating a blanked-off hose behind the transmission case, near the frame. Remove the plug and drain into a proper container. One problem with Sportster's (and other HD engines) is that some old oil is always left in the system. You can eject some of this by taking off the plug wires and cranking the engine to expel old oil back into the tank, and hence to drain line. Don't crank the engine more than 30 sec. to avoid damage. Never run engine W/O oil in the system. Recycle old motor oil !!

Why the change engine oil light keep coming on when i start my 2005 buick rendezvous? how can i turn it off?

Did you have the oil changed lately ?
Oil Life Left
Oil life left percentage is based on the information the DIC receives from a class 2 message from the PCM. The DIC displays the current percentage of the GM Oil Life System. When the oil needs changing the change engine oil indicator in the message center turns ON. When the engine oil is changed, reset the oil life left. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting in Maintenance and Lubrication.

GM Oil Life System Resetting
When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1 000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life system may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3,000 miles (5 000 km) since last oil change.
How to Reset the Engine Oil Life System
If the vehicle does not have optional Driver Information Center (DIC) , do the following:
Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds.
Turn the key to OFF. If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes back on when you start the vehicle, the Engine Oil Life System has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
If the vehicle has the optional DIC, do the following:
Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
Press the MODE button until the DIC reads OIL LIFE LEFT/HOLD SET TO RESET.
Press and hold the SET button until 100 percent is displayed. You will hear three chimes and the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message will go off.
Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes back on when you start the vehicle the Engine Oil Life System has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

How to reset change oil soon light

Oil Life Monitor Resetting (KD, KE)
Description
The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil and the engine oil filter - usually between 5 000 km (3,000 miles) and 12 500 km (7,500 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the CHANGE OIL message may be displayed before 5 000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 12 500 km (7,500 miles) or 12 months without an oil change.
The engine oil life monitor will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5 000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message is displayed.
Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed.
Resetting Procedure
Press the INFORMATION SKIP button on the DIC control panel in order to display the OIL LIFE LEFT message.
Press and hold the RESET NO button until the display shows 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE.

NEED TO RESET OIL CHANGE LIGHT

How to Reset the Engine Oil Life System
The Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change the engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Whenever the oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where the oil is changed prior to a CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message being turned on, reset the system.
Always reset the engine oil life to 100% after every oil change. It will not reset itself. To reset the Engine Oil Life System:
Display the OIL LIFE REMAINING on the DIC.
Press and hold the SET/RESET button on the DIC for more than five seconds. The oil life will change to 100%.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message comes back on when the vehicle is started, the Engine Oil Life System has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

Reset change oil light

hello, here is the instructions on how to reset the light

When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3000 miles (5000 km) since last oil change.
To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:
  1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
  2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
  4. Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

Notes ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM

HOW TO RESET THE ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM
The Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where you change your oil prior to a "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message being turned on, reset the system.

  1. With the ignition key in "RUN" but the engine off, repeatedly push the trip/reset button until "OIL" is displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC).
  2. Once "OIL" is displayed, push and hold the trip/reset button for five seconds. The number will disappear and be replaced by 100 (indicating 100% oil life remaining).
  3. Turn the key to "OFF". If the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
If this does not work you may have a problem with your instrument cluster.
