unless there is a switch on the ps3 itself to change to normal tv, you may have to reconnect the ps3 via HDMI and change the screen resolution back to 480p or change the settings in the setup from hdmi to av.

Copied from another forum: "On the PS3 from Standby (red light on) depress the power button till you hear two beeps. That will reset the resolution and you should get a picture." MANY THANKS to the original poster!

I am not completely sure that this will help you, however try doing a "factory reset".
You accomplish this by first (1) having the PS3 being off (2) hold down the power button on the front of the PS3. It will beep once when you turn it on and then a second time. When you hear it the second time, let go. See what happens.
Sometimes if you connect your consoles video a different way such as S-Video, Component or HDMI, your console remembers those settings and saves them causing many individuals to turn their console on and there is no video.
I hope this gives you somewhere to start.

Well you can just use the hdmi cable if you're going both audio and video in to your tv. With your hdmi cable you get the best quality for both.
But in anycase, it seems that your PS3 is set up to output video via HDMI cable. To reset our video output settings, simply power down your PS3 (turned off) and hold down the power button until you hear the second beep. (around 5-10 secs) Power back up and hopefully you'll have video via your av cable. Hope this helps.
SOURCE: My PS3 hdmi cable does not work
First off, if you want to use the hdmi remove the supplied composite cable from the back of the ps3.
You don't need both plugged in at the same time, and I'm not sure with the ps3 but some video devices will not enable both at once.
Have your tv selected for whatever hdmi input you have it plugged into. They should be labeled where you plug them in.
With the unit in standby, switch off and red light in front, hold the power button by the disc tray for 3-5 second. You will hear it beep, after the initial turn on beep, then you should see a display set up screen.
If you switch back to the composite, you will have to do this over again.
