Why doesn't 5-speed transmission go into gear?

It won't go into any gear? Fluid is good? Is the clutch working? Throw out working? Need more info to be able to answer more.
Post more info. Thanks, Viking.

I have a 1989 Toyota Pickup 22RE Engine 5 Speed Manual Transmission - The problem is that the clutch slips on higher gears especially on cruise control when I encounter a hill. Can you tell me if there is...

If it's a hydraulic operated clutch, as I think it is, then no, there is no adjustment. Only the cable operated clutches were adjustable. But there is a clutch pedal height and free-play adjustment that needs to be correct. Freeplay distance is 3/16 to 5/8 inch, adjusted at the pedal end of clutch pushrod. I don't know the pedal height for your pickup (you'll have to ask some toyota person), but the adjustment is made near top of pedal where it contacts the stopper bolt.

I have a 2001 Ford Mustang, v6 3.8 5 speed manual

The clutch is not fully releasing. You can try putting it into some other gear first, then rapidly moving to first gear, but really, you need to either adjust the clutch, or get it repaired.

Car cies when brakes are applied, and won't go back ingear.

sounds like your clutch needs adjusting . There should be adjustments on the top or bottom of cable. If adjustment is ok check clutch pedal points the brackets that support it sometimes crack if the cable gets stiff
