SOURCE: Oil filter
Hi .... Have a look at the front of the righthand engine casing, it's there. You have to take off the exhaust to get to it, allegedly a 1 1/2 job inc taking off the exhaust. There is an aftermarket kit for relocating the air filter, takes only 20 mins all in then from start to finish.

SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100
On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

SOURCE: Somehow oil is getting into
it sounds like your engine is burning oil. Are you having to put oil in the engine to keep it topped up on a regular basis? If you are either the rings on the pistons are worn out or the valve seals are draining into the rest of the engine and then oiling up your air filter
