SOURCE: gear wont change from 1st
The bike has some bent shift forks. The repair is pretty major and requires some special tools. I include a generic diagram to show how the shift forks move left and right to move a slider gear into different gears. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

SOURCE: I'm having a problem with shifting down from 3rd
A synthetic oil always helps shifting. Be sure you are using motorcycle oil (JASO MA rating). I do not think that the problem is with the clutch. If there is a problem with shifting after trying the oil change, it will be in the shift drum and shift forks. This would probably require pulling the motor and splitting the cases to fix. Try the oil change first before considering the other option. It is changing gears and it is not popping out of gear so you may be able to live with it. I have a similar shift issue with a new Suzuki DR200. In this case it is the transmission design (I often have to double clutch to downshift). The synthetic oil helps a lot.
