96 dodge neon, Loss of power, check engine light

OK so the car losses power at any speed. When i floor the motor it will kick back in until the RPM go back under 3500(shifting of transmition). if i feather the gas it has power... but cant gain speed. if i floor it tranny kicks gear and it runs good again, only till transmition shifts back into normal runing gear(bringing RPMs back under that 3500 mark). doesnt always have this problem... if i turn the car off for a min or 2 it seems to run good for another 10 miles then has the problem again. Im wondering if the enigne has a fuel distubuter in it. i know moters with those can have same problem.... Engine also seems to be missing when this happens.

Check your fuel pressure, should be 40lbs+ at idle. If you dont know how to do this, have a friend or a shop check it for you. I had same problem, no power at all would barely run ect,, turned out to be fuel pump.

Could very well be the fuel injectors. have you tried putting fuel injector cleaner in when you filled the tank? always with a full tank of gas.

Loss of power in fourth gear on 1979 ford f250 with 351 motor and 4bbl carb

This is a lengthy string ... but might be useful. It goes over all sorts of things ...
stumped carb backfire uphill at higher RPM
But one of the guy's issue with the new 4bbl carb was that his floor mat under the accelerator pedal limited just how far open the second set of bbls could open so he had loss of power at higher speeds.

I have a 1997 lumina with 3.1L. the problem started with loss of power under load and p0300 code. check coils and vacuum leaks both OK.change spark plugs and wires.[same problem] check compression OK.

Since you changed the sensor we will assume it is working. When you disconnect it you put the computer in limp mode which stops it from using sensor values. If code 300 is the only code we will assume the coolant temp sensor and others are ok.
I would check fuel pressure with a gauge next.

P0068 on a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. Rough "hunting" for idle. Momentary lag/loss of power from a stop. Random RPM changes while at a constant speed. Sometimes it feels like it drops out of gear...

P0068 Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of power
- Engine rough idle Possible causes - Large vacuum leak
- Leaking air duct system
- Mass Air Flow (MAF) poor electrcial connection
- Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) poor electrcial connection
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Faulty Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor
- TP sensor not seated properly.
- Faulty Throttle Position (TP) sensor.
- Dirty throttle body
When is the code detected? The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors operation rationality check by comparing sensed throttle position to mass air flow readings
P0068 DODGE Description The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors a vehicle operation rationality check by comparing Throttle Position (TP) to Mass Air Flow (MAF) readings. If, during a self-test, the comparison of the TP sensor and MAF sensor readings are not consistent with the calibrated load values, the test fails and a diagnostic trouble code is stored in continuous memory.

Driving home, 2003 Dodge neon starts to slow down, oil light has come on intermittedenly before, engine started to lose power, brakes locked up, and steering wheel locked up. Car had to be towed. Thanks.

lets hope its not a bad motor from lack of oil pressure, the loss of brakes and steering is due to the engine stopped running this is normal, but hte oil light coming on with the engine running is not good, you will need to see if the engine spins and trys to start, this will tell you a little bit, if it spins then it didnt lock up, and maybe its a fuelpump or timing belt that let go, you will have to do some testing ,check for fuel pressure and spark at the plugs,
