BMW R1150 RT

I'm wondering if you're getting the surging effect at low speed with the 2004 RT. I was looking for a used RT but your comment got my attention, I also hate low speed surging. I just read an article BMW motorcycle buyers guide that addresses that problem with th R259 motors. The autohor says the only fix is is an aftermarket fuel-management computer-the Techlusion Fuel Nanny, 831 Powerbox. They cost $250. Any comments?

I love my R1150RT. It is smooth, it has a lot more lug at lower RPM than the older modles (2003 and before models with 1 spark plug). The modifications with 2 spark plugs have cured all the surging. Should you want a smooth, reliable, comfortable and high speed touring bike, I would sauggest this bike is the best.

Anybody have a comprehensive guide to replacing the clutch on an R1150 BMW?

There are a few write ups over at BMW Sporttouring.com Use the search feature there to look.

Other option is to buy a factory service manual from a BMW dealer and read through the section on removal of the transmission, clutch etc. You might find a copy of the manual at Ebay etc.

It is not a job for a shade tree mechanic however.... you need a fairly complete set of tools etc and a way to support the bike from underneath the engine while you hinge up the whole rear frame and remove the trans to access the clutch.

Good Luck!

My r1150rt, 2004 with 7000 miles on the clock and just serviced seems to lack power momenterally when accelerated between 3000 & 4000 rpm. It is as if there were a lack of either spark of fuel for a second...

This sounds like the hall effect sensors to me, this is what happend to me I changed plugs, leads and the coils, in the end it was the sensors, if you need to know where to get the sensors from let me know. This is a comon fault with this bike
