Yes these bikes have a vin if sold in the U.S. it is on the head of the frame behind the fork tubes, the tenth digit is the year, same as automotive, y=2000, 1=2001, 2=2002 and so on, if it is and older model seach google for vin decoder and you will have an answer, someone needs to screen these answers, adding one, ha thats to funny.
There are no vin plates on moto x bikes the only way is to get the frame no which is on front tube of head stock behind front no board and the engine no which is behind the kick start under the exhaust on a flat plate get them then ring a dealer and they will tell you hope this helps ps if 1 or both are missing ie ground of alarm bells should ring could or will be stolen
Contact your local yamaha dealer with either the engine number or frame number and they can tell you for definate.
Find the model production year, usually found on the same plate as the vin. Then add one year. For instance if the bike was produced in 2001, then its a 2002 model.

Easy to find! Just phone your local Yamaha dealer with the VIN numbers and they can give you all the information you want. In the off chance the dealer is too busy or just doesn't want to please a customer, just Google ' Kawasaki motorcycle texas ' and you will have plenty of other dealers you can call. Use your own state or any state in the Google search.

You can add a headlight if the type of ignition system on your particular model is the type that will let you. Several different systems were used back then. The proper system will need a lighting coil installed onto the plate underneath the flywheel. The flywheel must be pulled off. You will see a coil there already for the spark. An unused set of threaded screw holes is present, (the same plate was used on the bikes that had a headlight). Just add the coil and now you have power for a headlight.
The VIN location for yamaha yz and yzf should be located on the right hand side steering tube/ frame. The 10th digit is the year code
