Battery termanals coming lose

I have had three instances where the battery terminals have come lose. The first time it happened I was riding the bike home just after leaving the dealership. The bike just shut off and wouldn't restart. I was so disappointed. But the dealership was very good and picked up the bike for me. They told me that the only thing they found was that the negative terminal had come lose. They delivered it to the Harley dealership where I work which is about 180 miles. After about a month the bike had done the same thing it just shut down and wouldn't restart. My shop said the battery was dead and the terminals were lose. I replaced the battery and watched the Tech. tighten the battery. Now three weeks later the bike starts to shut off while I was riding but

This time there was alot of smoke coming from under the seat. I found the Start Mod had a melt down. Now I'm still waiting for part to come. Has anybody had a similar issue? The bike is an'06 TT with only 710 miles. I bought it used with 660 mile on it.Let me start by saying that someone is not getting the the battery terminals tight to begin with. These are just bolts not Ridley bolts and should be tightened as you would tighten any bolt. If you find that bolts are continually getting lose there is a product called Loc-tite that can be applied to the threads to prevent loosening. The smoke is a different matter. Generally when this happens we find aftermarket lighting or changes in the original wiring. You now need to see a mechanic,

Battery dead after ride.. wont start.. 2006 C90

COuld be a bad battery or there is a loose (or corroded) connection somewhere. Check to be sure everything is tight, and clean on the battery terminals. If this happens after short trips, or after trips when your bike sat for a while, or on colder days it's probably just time for a new battery.

Reset Ecu for Blade efi

Ok guys since many people asking how to reset the ecu... this is the way ... one point is this is a my version as i took the original version meant for other bikes ...Before you guys reset, take note
If you wanna reset your ECU juz 'for fun' . the End result would be the same.. The ECU can only adjust to within a limited range. plus your bike will lose the precious riding skill that it learned before this . So please reset the ecu if you cahnge the battery , rectifier , coil magnet and anytin related to electrical component .
  1. remove the -ve and +ve wire from the battery terminal respectively and leave it for 10-15min minutes (some says only -ve would do ) ,,well its your call.
  2. connect back the terminals , and now start your bike and leave it idle for 15mins (do not disturb the throttle)
  3. off the engine and leave it for another 10 mins ,,,
  4. Take your bike out and blast ur way throught the road
  5. i) if u like aggressive style ... use the freeway ,, each time b4 u change ur gear , leave the rpm till redline ,,, and when u reach 150kmh , maintain it for 1-2 mins
  6. ii) if u like eazy ride ,,,, juz take your bike and ride normally
Eventually your bike will accustomed to the way you ride on daily basis hoefully this works ,,, CHERRIOSSS From Arvin 'Dr Rock' Raj

Sporster speedometer keeps cutting out

First thing to check and is usually the problem is the Negative battery terminal on the battery. When they come loose they will start arcing as well and will build up carbon on the battery connection and the connectors hooked to it. If it is loose, check and remove any carbon build up on them (chip, sand, file, grind, etc. etc.).

Battery keeps losing its charge

remove the neg cable and place a test light between cable and post and see if light comes on,if so then start removing fuses until it goes out that will narrow down your problem, if the light does not come on have the battery check it could have a faulty cell

I have a 2000 r6 and the other day when I was riding the bike it started to lose power and mis fire then all of a sudden it was ok and made it home. I turned the bike off then tried to start it again but...

Check voltage at the battery terminals. it should be approx 13-14 volts when running at about 2000 revs. these are not specific to your bike , these numbers may be as high as 14.7volts or 3000 revs. revs are usually at just above idle. If the voltage at the battery terminals is below 13 you have a problem with your alternator or regulator/rectifier. Incidentally the battery voltage is DC.

I recently removed and cleaned the battery cables and three small wires on my 2000 Ultra Classic. Didn't pay close enough attention to the three small wires that I removed from the ground terminal and...

Well it depends. I don't have a schematic for the 2000 Ultra but usually Harley doesn't any small wires connected to the battery. Years ago they did having a single large gauge wire for the general wiring in the bike. But, in recent years, they have moved that wire to the same connection as the positive battery cable connects to the starter. Now, the small wires may be for aftermarket "add ons" that someone has put on the bike like a battery charging pig tail, a security system, or something else. I have no way of knowing. My suggestion would be to get a schematic or try to trace the wires and see where they go. If they are for something like an aftermarket ignition system, which normally connects up at the ignition coil for it's power source, reversing the polarity of the unit could result in damage to the unit.

I'm having problems with my charging system on my 08 1125r. While riding the battery light comes on and the voltage display comes on while losing power to my instrument panel.

I had a problem when I first purchased my bike, I could start the bike 3 times and even after riding the bike would die. I ended up having to have the Harley Dealer come out and pick up the bike to fix it. Turned out, they had to "update the system software" on the bike. Hope this helps.

LOST POWER WHILE RIDING

It is likely that youve popped a fuse
The battery would have to be totalled to behave like that
But it sounds like the battery isnt being charged properly. Make sure the voltage across the batt terminals is at least 13.5v at tickover rising to no more than 15.5v at higher revs
Make sure the battery connections are TIGHT as well

2007 JackPot not charging

Check the connections on your battery terminals. They could be loose and/or gummed up.

Discounect the battery and clean up both the wires and terminals on the battery using a wire brush and electrical parts cleaner.

IMPORTANT!- do NOT ground the battery out by cleaning both terminals at the same time. LOTs of sparks and fire hazard. Plus that whole shocking yourself isn't fun either. Been there.

If that doesn't fix your problem, then more than likely you have a short coming off of your charging unit in the primary, or a bad ground.(Left side cover) Its a new bike, so there's a very small chance that its the charging unit itself.

Hope this helps

Good Luck!

Battery not holding a charge,

Check the charging rate of your bike, see if its system is charging, if it does charge thn theres somewhere the battery is getting drained out.
In order to see if tht is happenning, switch off everything and thn remove one battery wire on the battery, after doing so try to fix it back and notice if theres any sparks when it comes to the contact of the battery terminal , if so thn theres a drain somewhere in the electricals and wiring.

Good luck.
