Starter problem How come my Kymco scooter starts just for a few seconds then it stops even though my gas tank is full?

hi Alan, i have seen that fault before sadly the controller was faulty. No one by any chance remove the wiring on the controller and refitted ?

often the is a fuel filter in the tank at the end of the fuel line, if it has deteriorted then yes it could stop it from starting due to a clog in the carb. If ou have good spark then sprat a few puffs of starter fluid into air intake or on the air cleaner ( which should be clean ) . if it starts for a second or two then it's most likely your carb.

Although these answers are correct many are not probably. Valves are not going to go out of adjustment during the off season etc. You need to simplify it. You need gas, fire (spark) and air for a motor to run. Usually it will be the fact that the carb was not ran dry at the end of the season and fuel stabilizer was not used so the carb is dirty. You can pull you plug and see if it is wet with gas or try some engine starting fluid sprayed in the carb. Dry plug means no gas, no run with starting fluid mean no spark. Make sure fuel is on and the obvious has already been done. 90% chance dirty carb.

When you kick start a motorcycle or scooter, the motor turns over much faster than your electric starter can turn it over, even with a new battery.
I saw this before with several brands of scooters and the problem was solved by making sure you have clean battery terminals, and a fully charged good battery.
Some batteries will take a full charge but cant take a load. So your battery may seem good because it has 12+ volts, but when you try to start it it drops below 10-11 volts.
Most local auto parts stores can put a load test on your battery for free. If you purchase a new one, make sure it is the one called for for your scooter.

Filling the tank full is okay. The problem sounds like condensation in the gas tank has made it to the carburetor. There should be a screw or drain plug on the side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Drain the carb and also drain some gas from the fuel line to remove any water and trash in the system. Chances are this will get you back on the road.

the vent tube that runs beside the filler hose is crimped shut or clogged

possible cause could be evap canister full of gas causing back up

try changing the air and fuel filters; spark plug(s) as well.
