p0301 is a misfire problem, stands for misfire cylinder 1. it may caused by Faulty spark plug 1; Faulty ignition coil 1; Ignition coil 1 harness is open or shorted; Ignition coil 1 poor electrical connection; Clogged or faulty fuel injector 1; Injector 1 harness is open or shorted; Injector 1 poor electrical connection; Improper spark plug 1; Insufficient cylinder 1 compression; Incorrect fuel pressure; Intake air leak
hi mate ,,i've got the same problem.<br />
i bought a basket case 550ef with no igniter unit(cdi) fitted,,turns out they're near impossible to find used,or stupidly priced...if i were you i'd go down the boyer bransden route because you don't have to buy the coils or pick ups you can get the igniter module seperately.hope this helps.........john..
Never seen a 318 with a six cylinder before - they only came in 4 in the 1800cc to the best of my knowledge. Anyway, your problem is classic and it is the coyle pack. It is all one unit with two separate windings - 1st winding 1, 3, and 5 and 2nd winding 2, 4 and 6. Are you sure that the engine is not a 2.5 stright 6? When you take off the coyle pack, check the part number on the web. Good Luck!!
You need to check for spark at the number 1 spark plug if no spark then
it could be a few things
1.crank shaft position sensor
2. distributor cap or plugs
3. pick up coil inside distributor
4. ignition coil
5.ignition module
6.Blowen fuse check both engine fuses and inside cab fuses
7. oil pressure switch
You can pull the coil wire going into the distributor cap and check for
spark there if no spark there then your problem will be from the
ignition coil back
I had the same problem on 2 of my cars i changed the rotor arm then it was ok, so now i carry spare rotor arms in my cars as i have a wedding car business. hope this helps. TC.
Your described problem based on the bike being a 1982 model could be varied, among them are:
weak spark - not necessarily weak battery. Culprits could be loose loose connector to the CDI, low IGN +12 to the + terminal of the coil (check with a voltmeter while just switch on and when cranking/starting), or even a loose ground terminal. Check spark by removing plugs, reconnect the plugwires, let the threaded end touch metal part of engine, crank. Sparks should be strong;
corroded/poor contacts in the ignition switch resulting to the above. You can test by running a jumper wire straight from the battery to the + terminals of the ignition coil;
too lean air/fuel - plugs should be brownish in color;
air or vacuum leak - resulting to the above and high or poor idling;
unbalanced carbs - carb check/clean, verify air adjustment screw number of turns,
compression low - have a compression check.
Would look forward to your updates. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
THEGAS VALVE HAVE TWO COYL THEY CAN BE REPLACE . IF YOU GET HOT RED LIGH THE IGNIER IS GOOD . YOU DON;T HAVE GAS GOING IN OR THE COYL ARE NOT OPENING THE GAS TO LET THE FIRE ON. I RECOMENT TO REPLACE THE COYLS ON GAS VALE THEY AER VERRY INEXPENS AND 85% SHUR WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM.
