What relay do ihave to earth to get the engine to fire up.i have earthed the starter relay and the fuel pump relay but cant get a spark .have a ford dealer disk but not a lot of information their as only block diagram and any further information i need to use a dealer id to get into it.original fault ,battery went flat with car left for 3 mths without the battery being disconnected.i have removed the stupid boy racer alarm that was fitted but still cant get the thing to start as no spark ,power into coil pack all three wires but this ford disk just shows a block diagram with a numbers but the numbers will not show the location or the wiring diagram of whats inside the ECU or PCM .so if anyone knows where to run a earth wire to make it start ??pretty please ,and as for a haynes manual ?? failing which when i get time i will remove the fuse /relay board and follow the wiring and find the correct relay it will not beat me buts its the time factor so if anyone knows please post or e mail me [email protected].. pretty please

how to hotwire a ford escort and bypass the factory immobiliser.Well i done it in the end and it was dead simple but its a bit beyond the average weekend mechanic, firstly earth one side of the supply for the starter relay fuse box left hand side middle row ,the two smaller connectors find pos then earth other side.now the fuel relay front row right hand side smallish borwn colour ,sorry it could be green or red but iam colour blind.Same thing here the two thin connectors find the pos and earth other side .Now the tricky bit i will try to take a picture later if i can find my camera, take the covers off the ECU unit and turn it over circuit board up ,first transistor/cjip has about 8 connections ,the next one along has 3 connections ---join the two outer legs together ,ie solder a connection across the connections and MAGIC .Dammed dealer wanted 200€ minium to look at it then the **** ,well maybe a new unit 850€ plus labour and all the tech stuff trying to balls **** me ,i didnt do six long years at college for sweet nothing and 40 yrs in the trade up to my neck in **** and diesel oil to be taken by a bill gates look alike nerd.I will take some pics when i can find that camera, honest its so easy when you get into it.FEELING LIKE A PRIZE PEACOCK STRUTTING AROUND ,i beat them

Sounds like your crank position sensor is dead, your wires to the coil will have power but nothing will come out of the coil. The flywheel has a toothed plate fastened to it with one tooth missing, when the missing tooth passes by the crank position sensor , (CPS), it sends a signal to the computer located under your radio in the car and lets the coil know when to fire, if the CPS is bad you will still have power to every single wire in the car, just no fire. Also if it was wired with an alarm system it has an interupter wired into your wiring harness either under the dash or in the engine compartment, it should be pretty easy to spot because it with have cheap connectors and a crappy tape job where it was patched in.

I have a M9601 alarm and M99 immobiliser fitted to a mk5 xr3i,everything was fine until yesterday when the car was started first thing in the morning as normal but i had to go back indoors so meant turning...

Hi

if the battery is not much good then you will get issues like this also being a ford I would check the earth connection from the car battery to the car body, the main feed. also there is another o the gearbox and another that runs to the altenator, these are all common poor earth problems. ensure they have a good conatct.

Secondly have you checked the fuel relay is not loose or maybe on it's way out, this again is not unusual, if the relay fails then it has an electro magnet inside, poor powr from the battery will make it stick either open or closed like a light switch kinda, you should here it ticking at the fuse box when the key is turned, also immobilisers often use this part of the cars wiring to stop fuel coming to the engine as a security measure. Maybe thats the issue the immobiliser shutting the relay down.

I would certainly check that first as its super simp,e to replace.

Dan

Trouble-shooting your Isuzu starter..

Basic operation of a starter:
Your engine's starter motor is an electrical motor that is used to rotate the engine in order to get it to fire up. This motor draws a large amont of current from the battery (in the order of 70 Amps and up). In order to supply power to the starter a solenoid is used, it acts as a switch between the battery and the starter motor. This solenoid also engages the starter gear with the engine's flywheel and disengages it once the engine is started. Because the circuit for the solenoid also draws a heavy current a further relay is needed to control it.
The diagram below shows the electrical layout of the starting system.
  • i : Battery
  • ii : Starter relay(located in the relay box in the engine compartment)
  • iii : Starter solenoid
  • iv : Starter incorporating solenoid and motor.
  • v : Engine
  • vi : Battery earth cable
  • vii : Engine earth cable
  • viii : Ignition fuse
  • ix : Starter fuse
  • x : Solenoid to starter supply cable
  • xi : Ignition switch
  • xii : Starter motor
When the ignition(xi) is turned it supplies power from the battery through fuse (viii) to the starter relay(ii).
The starter relay activates and supplies power to the starter solenoid(iii) via fuse (ix)
The starter solenoid activates and connects power from the battery to the starter via a short cable(x) between the solenoid and starter motor. This allows the starter motor to turn.

General trouble shooting.
Turn the ignition off.
1/ First you need to check that the fuses are intact.
Keep the ignition off. Place the vehicle in Neutral. Chock the wheels and engage the parking brake.
2/ To prove the starter motor, connect power from the battery positive to the cable (x). This must be done with jumper cables. Touch the jumper cable to the connector on the back of the solenoid where cable (x) connects. Take care not to short circuit the jumper cable to the engine or vehicle body. It can be a tight fit and might not always be possible. If you hear the starter motor spin then it is working along with the engine earth cable. If not, connect the negative lead of the jumper cable between the battery and the starter motor body or any other bare piece of metal on the engine and put the positive lead on cable (x) again. If the starter motor does not spin it needs to come out for repair/replacement. If it spins check both the battery earth cable and engine earth cable and repair where nescasary.
3/ Once the starter motor has been proved move on to the solenoid. Remove the thin wire from the solenoid. Using a small piece of wire, connect battery positive to the connector where you just took off the wire. The solenoid should kick in and the starter motor will turn the engine. If the solenoid does not kick in, remove the starter for repair/replacement of the solenoid. If the solenoid kicks in then replace the starter relay.

If the starting circuit still does not operate the fault will be in the wiring. This needs reasonable expertise and if you dont have a voltmeter handy is not advised.
Bear in mind on automatic transmission vehicles there is an additional switch (Mode switch) wired in between the ignition switch and the starter relay. This switch is on the transmission itself and if faulty will not allow the starter to operate even if steps 1 to 3 were successfull. The same goes for the anti theft/immobiliser system.

The following is specifically for Isuzu Trooper and Rodeo :
  • i : Battery
  • ii : Starter relay(located in the relay fuse box in the engine compartment designated X-17)
  • iii : Starter solenoid
  • iv : Starter incorporating solenoid and motor.
  • v : Engine
  • vi : Battery earth cable
  • vii : Engine earth cable
  • viii : 10A Starter fuse C-1(Fuse box: LH footwell on LHD vehicle, RH dash on RHD vehicle)
  • x : Solenoid to starter supply cable
  • xi : Ignition switch
  • xii : Starter motor
  • xiii : 80A Main fusible link FL-1(Relay fuse box)
  • xiv : 50 A Key SW fusible link FL-2(relay fuse box)
  • xv : Mode switch(A/T only - mounted on the side of the transmission) and for 6 cylinder manual transmission engines this is the clutch start switch mounted on the clutch pedal.
  • xvi : Anti theft system
  • B2 : B2 on ignition sitch
  • ST : ST on ignition switch

Where is the starter motor on my ford escort escort 1.6 lx 1997

hi if you follow the positive + lead from the battery it will lead you to the other end where it fastens to the starter motor solenoid starter motor is at the rear side of engine nearest bulkhead and is secured to the point where gearbox clutch housing secures to engine it is secured by three bolts 13 mm ? socket or spanner size or the old 1/2" AF size spanner ? b4 you attempt removal of starter ? you must disconnect earth lead from battery (ensure if your radio is coded ? you have the code to re instate ? ) out of curiosity ? what problem do you have with starter? may be able to help ??

Where is the earth wire on the gear box, to connect to the starter motor.

should be a thin wide braided line or a black cable about the same size of an earth for a amp either on top side or underneath the car.

Ford Escort 1998 fuel pump not working.

good old ford lol, try looking at the crank sensor its located at the front of the engine tucked in right hand side of exhaust manifold and gearbox, two pin plug, i have also known these to have no end of faults with the fusebox.
easy to remove, and solder the connections inside they all suffer eventually, if your not to handy with cars i recommend taking to a auto electrician, easy if you know how. Good luck Davelee

No fire no fuel pump replaced both same results

ground for fuel pump relay is on the right side of fuse panel last small green relay on right ,two larger spade and two smaller ones check for feed on the smaller terminals and try earthing the other one.but if you have this problem them the chances are the immobliser has cut in.If no spark as well then its dealer only to resolve the problem as the ecu needs re-calibrating.normally the starter will not work either but its possible someone has rewired this at some time.
