Hi there Dave
I would check Carby setting. Like float levels, Mixture screw setting. These can make the bike run
roughily. Also the spark plugs settings, eg not right gap or heat range or ever reach. One other thing
is vacuum leak eg from a vacuum hose ( this usely makes the bike run rough all the time) Simple way
to test this is use a can of WD 40 & spray over the vacuum hoses & if it stops the problem for a short
time you need to replace the hose or fix the leak. I hope this helps your problem, if not please put up
some more info on what you have done to help you There is many little things that can course is
problem.

First off, realize that the problem could be from something as simple as trash in the gas. If you are trying to keep from tearing off the carbs to fix the problem, then you might just run some SeaFoam or similar carb cleaner through the tank.If that doesnt solve it,then you will need to physically clean the carbs as well as make sure your ignition system is working ok ie:plugs not fouled, good spark etc. Carbs can be intimidating and if your unsure you might want to have a professional clean them for you.But if your a do it yourselfer, make sure have you a nice clean work area, a toothbrush, a fine brass toothbrush,a can of carb cleaner, good screwdrivers, small adjustable wrench and a pair of needle nose pliers and you can do it. Dont tear the carbs apart from each other or mess with the linkage. You want to take off your float bowl on the bottom of the carb on each one.Do them one at a time so you can remember how to put them back. You will have a float with a needle on the bottom of it going to the valve on each carb.Clean all these out.You can use a qtip and some carb cleaner to clean the inside of the needle valve seat.To make sure your float is not staying open and flooding at low rpm, place the float in a small container of gas. If the float sinks,it is bad and needs replacing. Also make sure the needle valve is in good shape and not pitted up or it will also let the carb flood. Now you also have jets with allow gas and air to mix in the carbs. You need to unscrew these jets one at a time and clean them making sure there are no small bits of carbon in the holes.Dont try to gouge out the holes as making them bigger will mess up your mixture.Just clean everything and make sure you get any and all trash from any place in the carbs jets, float bowl area, and slides if so equipped.Make sure you put everything back the same way you tore it apart and tighten everything securely but dont crank down on those screws.most of the metal anymore is pot metal and will strip easily. But cleaning the carbs is one way to isolate a miss or surging at idle without spending a ton at the shop.Good luck.
