SOURCE: How do you get the battery out of a 1989 honda shadow 1100
Hi,
Remove the Left side cover (as you are sitting on the bike).
Disconnect the negative cable first (left), then the positive. Remove the battery holder bolt (above battery). Lift up on the front of the battery and remove the vent tube. The battery will then come right out.
When installing new battery, make sure the vent tube is attached, and connect the positive cable before the negative. Sparks and batteries don't get along...
Please let me know if this helped.

Have you tried to adjust the tickover screw on the carbs?
SOURCE: 2003 honda shadow spirit vt750 carbs
It is different then most other carbs. DON"T DRILL ANY BRASS HEADS LOOKING FOR THE AIR FUEL MIXTURE. The air fuel mixture is the only adjustment you can make. It is located on the bottom side of the air intake, right behind the air filter box. It looks like a 1/4" flat metal plug. Do NOT drill this. There is no slot for a screw driver. There is a tool which is no more then a small piece of pipe that fits over this plug and you turn it in till seated, gently. Count the turns. Back out to 2 and a half turns, thats normal. Or if you no that you need more fuel injected, simply turn the screw OUT 1/4 or 1/2 turn and try it. GOOD LUCK (Its not hard)
There is no drilling to be done. Hope i didnt scew something up on mine......
SOURCE: I have a 2003 honda shadow spirit vt1100c and it
These bikes are notorious for doing this. You must have a good battery to start these engines. I had a '94 VT1100 Shadow and it did the same thing. I bought a new battery and that solved the problem. Take you battery out and take it to an automotive parts house. They'll usually test the battery for you free of charge. Back when I had my Shadow, the only people that made the battery was Yuasa and it was that Yumacron battery. Expensive but it made the bike start well. Good Luck!
