One of those wires is potentially for the light bulb inside the tach. Find that one first. The black should be ground, and the red should be coil, but, how many coils do you have? Mine had 4, and it was the one on the far right that worked the tack, Check it out.
You shouldn't have anything going to the battery, The light if there is one will connect to the light wire itself, or any hot wire while the bike is running. The ground wire may not be needed either because the tach should be grounded when attached but it also could be rubber mounted, Out of your coil pack there, you should have 2 or more wires, I think it is the red one, But they are probably all different. So,, go back to the light bulb, If you can get it to light up, with or without the black, then you can isolate these things.
OK, then, I think you either have the wrong wire from the coil, or the tach is shot. I have one of those mini tachs on my monster, and it never would read right, using the original wire from the coil, I never tried a different one. It would always read about 700 rpm. I blamed the tach, but I do not know for sure.

@ned white.. i have only 1 coil on my underbone..
i put the red wire on positive of the battery and black wire on the ground..
my problem is, when i put the green wire on the coil,, the needle on my tach doesnt move??
yes.. when i put the red wire to the ignition switch and black wire on the ground,, the light of tach is working,,
then when i put the green wire on the coil,, the tach doesnt move...
it only moves when i tap the green wrie on the headlight,, but the rpm reading is too high,, the 1 /4 throttle is 18 rp,. the idle is 7 rpm,
how about on the CDI?
can i top the green wire?
