The pedals on my Nordic Track SL700 turn completely free. I think I need to replace the crank assembly but cannot seem to get into it. Is this bike worth the price of a new crank assembly part?

I have taken the bike apart and the belt, etc. seem to be working well. I think that it is the crank assembly that needs to be replaced but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the foot crank arms and get the crank assembly free. How can I fix this and is it worth it because the bike is so old and the part is so expensive?

Dear Sir:

Please do the following:

Use aflat screwdriver to unseat the tabs that hold the front top cover in place. This will expose the flywheel and pedal arm connection points. Rotate theflywheel by hand and determine whether lubrication will accomplish the repairs. If the bearings are exposed, use a grease gun with an extension nozzle and lubricateboth bearings with lithium grease. If the bearings are damaged or sealed, proceed to the next step.2
Removethe front and side covers on the main frame. Hold the flywheel with one handand use a box wrench to loosen the bolts that secure the pedal arms at eachside of the flywheel. Pull the arms away from the flywheel and remove thebearings from each side.3
Test thebearings as before. Lubricate exposed bearings with lithium grease andreinstall them. Sealed bearings must be replaced. Reattach the pedal arms tothe flywheel. Replace the main frame covers and front top cover to complete therepairs.sincerely. God bless you.

SOURCE: Nordic Track Treadmill will not run

If console lights up but doesnt respond when buttons are pressed, you more than likely have a console problem. Key pad issue would be my best guess.

SOURCE: Calibration Mode for nordic track treadmill model

Hello there, The calibration mode for a nordictrack is as follows.

With the safety key out, hold the stop and speed up arrow at the same time while inserting the key. Release the buttons. You will then be in diagnostics.
You then press the stop button one time.
If you are trying to calibrate the incline you just need to hit the incline up button and the machine will do an incline calibration. The unit should go all the way to the top and return to the bottom when completed.

If you need to calibrate the speed you will need to press and hold the speed up button on the console until the display reads 85. The machine should then be running at its maximum speed (either 10 or 12 mph depending on the unit)
The display will show a speed on the console and should be within .3 of the maximum speed.
If it is not then it will need to be adjusted using a potentiometer on the control pwb.
To access the control pwb open the hood cover. Should be 3 screws in the rear of the cover and 2 screws on the bottom of the unit.
Once inside the cover locate the control pwb. On the control pwb there will be a yellow/orange potentiometer. This is the adjusting part.
Use a non-metallic phillips head screw driver to adjust the potentiometer either clockwise for faster or counterclockwise for slower.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck! Tim

Can't remove right pedal shield

The shield will not come off unless you remove the entire crank, not just the pedal. to do this, you need to buy a CRANK ARM PULLER TOOL available for around $15.oo at any bicycle shop. Make sure to get one for a square tapered bottom bracket. Just used one, the crank came right off and the shield simply lifted away. here is a link to a YouTube Video showing the tool and explaining the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N63ofGcRCYQ
