The most common adjustment would be to adjust your idle mixture screw. These guys make the job very easy with a thumbscrew to do the job. Tell them I sent you and that you need carb help. http://www.maxairengineering.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MPS-PRO-RDSTR&Category_Code=ROADSTAR&Product_Count=3

They are great guys and very helpful. They have my bike running the best it ever has.

SOURCE: How do you check the oil in a 2003 yamaha roadstar

all bike are to be checked in the upright position! then find out how much the bike takes from your manual if you dont have a manual ...do the following ..when you just change oil and not filter you will be adding less oil,"almost" all bikes take @ 3 quarts oil minimum, so what i do to be safe!! is always after draining is put in two quarts no problem, but with the third bottle i only pour in half.. drop oil cap back on and start the bike and let it run for a minute, the turn it back off, then check oil level, if it doesn't register anything on the stick or sight glass then your o.k. to add the rest. now take a reading, and only fill to almost full, i always under fill my bikes, because over filling will cause damage to internal bearing by the air bubbles from the splashing of the crank in the oil pan. Same as cars.
If you found this helpful can i get a rating?

2000 Yamaha Roadstar, why does the fuel pump kick in on hot days say 85 or over it fluds over on restart to the point it runs out on the ground?

I Have The 2003 Roadstar Silverado Silver Edition That was doing the same. After riding and shut down when I would restart the fuel would flow onto the ground, I called my so called tech. He he wanted to remove my fuel pump? I asked if he could adjust the float he just replaced and he said floats never need adjustments, well I dropped the float bowl and the tab I slightly adjusted it to close needle valve. No overflowing and plenty of Power. The Fuel Pump is very important so when you come in with power you have plenty of fuel supply. Hope this helps.
PS, He no longer is touching My Rodie.

Fuel overflows (leaks) upon turning Roadstar 1700

not a throttle valve, but the float needle valve that shuts the fuel off with the float. the only cure for the sticking floay valve is to remove the carb and clean it.
