One single click any time you turn the key usually indicates a bad solenoid on the starter. A new starter will typical get you going.
A series of rapid clicks when you try to start usually indicates a weak battery. There could also be a bad connection at the terminals on the battery or even a poor connection at the starter.
If you get a single click and everything goes dead for a couple of seconds than you definitely have a bad connection at the battery.
Let me know what you find or if you have any questions.

it can actually be your starter. many times a bad starter just wont turn at all. it can be that, a short, or the only other thing i can think of would be a blown starter fuse. you can check your fuse box in the engine compartment, it should be like a 50 to 80 amp fuse thats in a little clear box in the fuse section of your fuse compartment. hope this helps. and if fuse is good, you can try poking the starter with a stick and try to start. if it does something after poking it, then its the starter

If any of the gauges are blinking and going haywire and the security light flashing then the instument cluster is faulty. But if it is just the security light flashing then its in the switch. If you only had the switch replaced then you need a new ignition lock cylinder because its worn out.

Check the starter and the starter relay or fuse. A client of mines car was doing the same thing, it ended up being two issues, the starter not working anymore, and a relay that was bad. If I am not mistaken everything should be labeled in the fuse box under the hood and will tell you where the fuse/ relay is for your vehicle

the starter is bad, locate the starter, it should look like 2 cylinders one lying on top of the other hit the smaller one of the two with a hard object like a hammer or a metal rod. be careful not to hit the back of the cylinders were the cables are loacted only the side round part of the cylinder. this will get the solinoid un stuck and it should start. you miht need to wack the soliniod a couple of time to get it unstuck it the solinoid is just plain dead you will need to repalce the entire starter. before you buy a new starter have them autozone or a autopart store test the original starter you will have to remove the starter in order to have them test it. do this after you have determined the battery is bad. pull the battery out and have an auto parts store test it. they usually do this test for free.
