CHECK OIL PRESSURE.ENGINE OIL PASSAGES IN CYLINDER BLOCK STOPPED UP WITH SLUDGED. IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGING ENGINE OIL AND FILTER. CHECK ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 15 PSI @ 1100 RPM. OIL PUMP COULD BE BAD OR TIMING CHAIN SLIPPING THE CAMSHAFT OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR COULD BE WORN DAMAGED NOT TURNING THE OIL PUMP DRIVE ROD.

If you have oil pressure you are ok,my guess is the push rods may be plugged up with gunk,if the oil hasent been changed this could happen.

the problem came on suddenly, none of the rockers are getting any oil (i took the valve cover off of the front cyl. bank) oil changes have been done regulary.

hope you still have it apart,if you can take the rockers off and see if you can see through them,if not push a wire though.

2003 pontiac aztek low oil pressure light on and motor knocking

If the engine has the required amount of oil, and you have replaced the sending unit, and the engine is knocking, I would say the oil pump has failed.
Chances are the bearings are damaged enough to require the engine be rebuilt. You won't know for sure until someone takes the oil pan off and checks the bearings.

Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off. Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds. Turn the key to OFF If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL’ message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
