Hi i have just bought an aprillia mx 125 and was told it was full power but when im riding it wont rev past 5000rpm and just splutters when i try,

Dont waste your time looking for something else. Go ahead and pull the spark plug and do a compression test. It should have at least 100psi. If not,its time for a top end rebuild. It gets worse when it gets hotter because the ring gap expands,and loses what little compression it has. Best to check the compression and rebuild the top end now,before the piston or rings break,and cause lower end engine catastrophe...

Just bought Aprillia mx 125 2006 and had the same issue. Today carb came off and cleaned in petrol then air lined the jets. Whilst carb off have a look at the reed valves, clean also. I removed the SAS valve and uprated air filter and check your rave valve cable and solinoid. She runs great cant wait to get arrow exhaust now. your timing is out and needs to be checked and re-adjusted .
If the bike gets hot very fast and lacks of pwer its only due to timing.

it is digital or a cable screwed into the back, check that the cable is all the way screwed in, if it is, remove it and make sure the end of the cable is square on both ends.

i planned to buy a motorbike just try the aprillia 125 and i really like it. so i need ur advice about the maintanance and spare parts. as my fren told me the spare parts dammen expensive lorr... 1 set sprockect and chain cost about rm600 is it true??? i dun care about the fuel consumption coz i use to go to work only so it's take about 60km per day only. pls help me... use castrol 2t oil. else, use repsol. you must always high-REV the bike... if not lagi cepat rosak!! many apprilia owner never rev hard enough and their engine got damaged easily. this is because the piston needs to be lube but the valve will only open when you high-REV(to the correct power-band) the bike. 6000rpm and above. You must ride hard on this bike. If you think by riding gentle the bike will last longer, you are wrong. Engine will get over heated very easily cos piston not properly lubed since power-valve never open. it's a nice bike to own,,,
