This sounds more like a carb problem. Has she been sitting up? If she has sat up, gas will dry up in the carb and it dries like a varnish. If she has sat un-used, and un-started for a month or longer, gas starts to dry and it leaves behind this varnish like film. You can try a product called Seafoam, Try and get some in the carb. let it sit for a few days. Drain the tank and mix a can in a small amount of clean gas, crank it up let it run until you know it is in the carb. let it sit. Come back in 2 - 3 days and see if it will start up then. If it still does not want to run right you will need to remove the carb and give it a good cleaning. Do not mess with any settings or any adjustment screws just clean it. Hope this helps FixYa up.
What about the kick stand switch. You say it is disconnected has it been by passed. This can happen if that switch is not by passed right or if the by pass has worked loose.
First thing would be to reconnect it, to see if this problem will go away then see about by-passing it if you feel you need to.
Good deal, lets ride.

Not sure what you mean by setting up? Unused? No. She has been driven almost daily since June, but did set for about a week during rainy weather, although I did crank her over several times. It starts up just fine and idles good; just dies when clutch is released. Will try the seafoam....

The engine was stalling when the switch was connected so I thought disconnecting it would remove it as a cause. it has not been bypassed, just disconnected.
I Dont know how to bypass this switch.
Yep that was it. switch is bad. Thanks!
