I have a 2000 kawasaki zx6e hit a pot hole and droped it on the generater cover and it slid ill say 10 feet. I changed the cover it started with no problem, when I went to drive it I heard what it sounds to be something metal bouncing around in the engine. On the 3rd start it would sound like its about to start but just sounds like the gears are grinding. I checked the oil pan and found metal shaveings and asphalt pepples. I took the gear that's connected to the starter out and it started without a problem...I need help with that noise in the engine and getting it to start...any help would be greatful...Thx

The bike has some bent shift forks. Bent shift forks do not move the slider gears properly when changing gears. Expensive to fix.

It is possible that the first gear shift fork in the transmission is bent causing the 'dog-clutch' between two gears to just barely mesh. With engine off, push the shift into first and clutch lever released. Rock the bike back and forth to see if the gearing seems to be jumping in and out. There may be a problem with the shift lever shaft mechanism not allowing a complete shift into first gear. Hope this helps!

Stop riding the bike. The tranny could lock up at any moment > like at 60 mph in traffic. The gearbox will need to be opened upand the problem located and fixed. The fix is not going to be cheap $$$$
