No. I'd suggest to disconnect a battery for 15 mins, reconnect, wait for 5 mins and try to restart. If it doesn't help (sometimes there's a program block to prevent stealing equipment) call a dealer

SOURCE: BMW X5 Trans Fail Safe Program,

sometimes it will clear if you turn the X5 off and restart it. however, it could be an early indication that the tranny is about to expire. i have had it happen and it cleared with a power cycle, but also had friends where it cleared for a few weeks/months and returned. this time it was really the transmission that went bad. if you can't get it to clear, then i'd suggest taking it to the dealer and have them plug into it to have a better look.

Before you start looking at the transmission, make sure that your battery is in good shape and the battery terminals are making clean connections. The transmission computer is quite sensitive to voltage variations.
If the problem is in the transmission, the most common failure point that I have read about is the temperature sensor. They sometimes fail after a few years. The sensor is not expensive, and not too difficult to replace, and it was time to change your transmission fluid and filter anyway, right?

2007 impala won't start sometimes

The most likely problem is a failed safety switch in the transmission. It will only allow the engine to turn over when in "neutral", or "Park". Next time it happens try moving the transmission selector through the full range of travel a couple of times. If this cures the problem, you may need new switch.

2006 dodge stratus won't crank and cruise control won't light

Must not have been much of a mechanic. If the engine runs and sounds fine sometimes and other times it doesn't then it does not sound like a mechanical problem with the engine. Sounds more like a issue with either the ignition system or fuel system.

2002 Ford Explorer ran out of gas put gas in and won't restart. replaced fuel pump and fuel filter still won't start. Cranks but won't start

Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.

Since a recode will fix the problem for a couple of months, I would guess it is how you are carrying or storing your key instead of something in the vehicle. Are you putting them close to your cell phone or other electronic device? If so try to change your habit and store them away from anything electronic (including your alarm clock).

see if the cam is turning when trying to start the engine (look through the oil filler cap) if its not, you may have a broken timing belt (and engine damage) if it wasn't empty on the fuel gauge I doubt it ran out of gas.

Have a '94 S-10 Blazer Tahoe 4X4 and it starts

My suspicion is a starter going bad. Sometimes when starters get old and worn they will start good when the engine is cold but not when the engine is warmed up. Did you perhaps notice that lately is seemed to drag when you tried starting, especially warm or it seemed to crank a little slower? I'd replace the starter. Hope this helps.

GMC Envoy, dashboard gauges not working. Started with the gas gauge, then the battery, then the temperature, not the RPM. It seems like the gauges don't reset (or return to zero) when ignition is shut...

Could be a couple of things, one is your ignition switch may be going bad.

The other is, the little stepper motors on the back of the cluster, may be going too, both are very common.

By the way, normal operating temperature for the I6 engine is 210 degrees.
