Odds are that if it sat for a year with fuel in it, the carb may be gummed up. Opening the throttle will cause an immediate engine stop if it is not getting fuel.
I'd recommend a "clean out the carb" project, including using air to blow out allof the small orifices.
I "fixed" a couple of small carbs with the same issue just by spraying in some carb cleaner.
However, it shouldn't take you long to remove it, take it apart and rinse jets etc, as it clogs by sitting.
Take apart the carb and give it good cleaning maybe even but a rebuild kit if available. also disconnect tank hose from carb and empty tank into clear glass jar. Sounds like there might be some water in your gas. In the glass jar you will see a clear line of liquid at the bottom that would be water, even just a little will give these similar symptoms. Good Luck....
when you say a number of years is it the same petrol in the fuel tank?
personnely i would look at the filter in the fuel tank is it clean when you turn on the petrol does it run freely? disconnect the fuel pipe and empty the tank into a fuel can
i know you said that you have cleaned the carb but did you check the floats? a messy job which will cover your hands in petrol but must be done im afraid
give me shout if when you have done this and maybe i can help some more
Try cleaning out your carb, Petrol starts to form into a jelly after 3 to 4 weeks if you dont turn the engine over. Your carb is situated under your petrol tank. Hope this helps
If the odd substance was at the bottom of the float bowl it was water. If it were oil it would have mixed with the gas and you would not have seen it. Drain the carb into a cup to remove any additional water from the carb and petrol tank. When no more water comes from the tank you should be okay to start the bike. Clean air filter? Water gets into the tank via condensation in the tank.
check voltage at battery, then check voltage at solonoid, then check voltage at starter. were does it stop? also check batt cables, fuse cons. any corosion? water damage?
Hi, Sitting not good ! That is why the petcock has an off position. Spray some starter fluid or some fuel in the carb intakes and see if cranks, If it does, the carbs have to be disassembled and cleaned. Good Luck to you!
