I have a '03 vstar 1100 classic that i just bought. it was running fine untill two days ago it cut out on me while i was riding, i restarted it but every time i gave it throttle it died untill it woudnt start at all. it does have gas in it and so far ive changed the plugs(it wasnt getting spark) and made a half *** attemp to clean the carb with out taking it off. now it will start but die when i give it throttle. it also dies after a few seconds of idleing. it has custom pipes, i think the guy said the carb had been jetted but im not sure.

SOURCE: Vstar 650 classic. only will idle.

hello and welcome
this is a very very commom problem after the cycle has gone over a storage period of anything over a month or so. what has happened is the deteriorated fuel has plugged the idle jet, and possibley other jetting. this is verified by pulling out the choke allows it to run. because this makes of for the loss of fuel the jets are not produceing. so to fix this you will need to remove the carbs and take out the jets and clean them thoroughly with a carb cleaner and possibly a very small gauge wire to break up builup. especially in the pilot jet. unfortunately fuel added carb cleaners dont seem to work for this kind of problem and to fix right they should be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. thank you.

SOURCE: bike runs at Idle but dies when given gas

have you changed the fuel filter? you are not getting enough gas, are jets squeaky clean? there is a good fuel system cleaner in the USA called Berrymans B12. put some in the tank warm up bike then let it stand overnight and see what happens. if still no luck repeat process. if you still have same problem then get new fuel filter

good luck

SOURCE: throttle hesitates early, and also stalls when trying idle-carb

yes it sure does. get fresh gas too. if you are in the US, get Berrymans B12 fuel additive, double dose throw in tank and run bike til hot, then leave it to stand overnight. see how it is next day. if no better. remove air cleaners and get spray Berrymans , lift up sliders in carbs and spray a ton inside, again leave this overnight to break down the gum and varnish. if neither work then you are gonna have to pull them carbs and open them up to clean.

SOURCE: 2007 650 yamaha vstar popping through the rear cylinder exhaust

First off did you buy it new? Second has it gone through its break in tune up yet?Did you do the re jeting? My guess is it was re jeted wrong & neeeds to be re jeted again or could also need more air(upgraded air kit) or a tfi or power comand fuel mod.My bike also poped untill I did the air & fuel upgrades & them upgrades will also give you a much needed house power needed for this rig.

Bring it to a shop & have it looked at.......

Good luck

Sounds like it may be drawing air around the intake somewhere. Let it idle and spray around carefully with wd-40 until it speeds up. This will reveal the leak.
