SOURCE: yamaha roadstar 1600 yr.2000 digital

The first thing you can do is check the fuses, the fuse box is either under the seat or behind the cover on the left side as you are sitting on the bike, if all is good then remove the speedo cluster and connect it to your battery directly, Here is the procedure from the manual

CHECKING THE LEDs

The following procedure applies to all of

the LEDs.

1. Check:

LED (for proper operation)

a. Disconnect the meter assembly coupler

(meter assembly side).

b. Connect two jumper leads 1 from the

battery terminals to the respective coupler

terminals as shown.

WAWRNARINNGING

• A wire that is used as a jumper lead must

have at least the same capacity of the

battery lead, otherwise the jumper lead

may burn.

• This check is likely to produce sparks,

therefore make sure that no flammable

gas or fluid is in the vicinity.

c. When the jumper leads are connected to

the terminals the respective LED should

illuminate.

Does not light ® Replace the meter

assembly.

This will tell you if it is the meter, If the meter is good then you will need to follow the wires connected to it till you find the problem. I hope this is a big help to you.

SOURCE: I can't get the driver seat off of my 2002 Yamaha

Roadstars have a seat lock operated via ignition switch.
Insert the key into the ignition switch. Turn the key in the counter-clockwise direction as far as you can (don't push down on the key...just turn). You'll hear a click release sound from the front end of the seat. The seat front should now lift for you. Sometimes the lock can stick so you may need to push down on the seat front while turning the key to get the latch released.

SOURCE: speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge won't

If the fuses and the terminals for the connectors are good, I would suggest to trace the wiring. There may be ground wires that had come off. If all the lines are good, you could try swapping the speed sensor on another Yamaha to test if the speed sensor went out.

Speedometer stopped working

You probably need a new speedometer cable. It may be too old of a car to try and find one from a salvager. They periodically send the older cars to be crushed.
The cables have been known to break apart after many years of service. It is connected at the transmission and behind the instrument cluster. You have to pull the cluster out part way and reach behind to unclip the cable from the back of the speedometer housing.

No dash lights when headlights are turned on. Everything works fine on my vehicle EXCEPT today the panel lights don't work. Turn signals, hazard blinker, oil gauge, rpm gauge, speedometer, drive shift...

there is a regulator for the display brightness, you may have it turn'd down or it has stopped working;. it controls the brightness at which the dash lights are. usually has a speedo sign on it. goes up and down. it works with the main light and is conecter to them on the same lighting board if it has gone then a new light swtch control switch will be needed.

Is there a fuse for speedometer

The speedometer should be on the same circuit as the rest of the gauges.
If the speedometer and odometer stop working, you should get a check engine light and the problem could be the speed sensor in the transmission.
