hi,this might help, with the fuel turned on ,take a screwdriver, and with the handle end of the screwdriver give the carb bowls a couple of good taps, the fuel should stop flowing,it sounds like the needle valve has indeed stuck open,if the above method doesnt work, then you will have to pull the carbs out and give them a good clean,if it was me and my bike i would be pulling the carbs out and cleaning them anyway because if the float valves are gummed up then there is every chance that the carb jets are going to be gummed up as well and you will probably have a bike that runs like a bag of bolts even though the fuel overflow has stopped..hope this helps...cheers

go to www.colorrite.com and look up your exact motorcycle. Sounds like you have a midnight V star? The gloss black is called Raven and the matte finish i'm unsure of. i work for a Yamaha dealer and we always recommend Color Rite. Good luck.
2003 V Star 650. Had fule pumping out of air cleaner box
you shouldnt have to resync the carbs as long as you dont touch the mixture screws or the screws for the throttle blades. you wont have to pull the jets completly out to clean them just spray the heck out of all the orifaces with carb cleaner once you have them pulled apart. Also whe you put it back together make shure the carb seal to the engine and airbox are tight with no leaks, this will make it run bad also
