Vstar 1100 classic sputters, bogs and pops when
Hi! You definitely have fuel flooding thats why it sputters and pops when you hit the throttle. You will have to replace the jets to regulate the fuel supply. Once replaced you'll be good. Hope this helps and have a good one!
Starter stalls and locks up.
this is common with big compression V twins. The only suggestions i have, is to make sure your battery is new, as you want maximum voltage, mabey a bigger starter relay,( higher amp rating). Do a voltage check with engine running, make sure your charging system is good.
All of a sudden my clutch slips when riding.
If the clutch is new, or fairly new and not abused, I would check the adjustment on the clutch cable. It could warp or wear the plates over time. I have seen many warped plates when I worked in the field.
Can Synthetic blend oil be used with a Yamaha 1100
Yes, Yamaha makes regular,semi-,and full synthetic oil for there motorcycles. Make sure the oil you use is JASO MA certified for motorcycle use. Do not use any oil that says energy conserving, it will shorten the life of your clutch and drive gears. Amzoil and Mobile 1 both make good motorcycle oil (full synthetic). Full synthetic is often the same price as semi-synthetic.

Simply drain old hypoid 30 oil out of the case and refil through the level indicator on the side, you will need to have the rear wheel off the ground while you fill it as you need to spin the back wheel slowly while filling it, keep going untill the oil starts to seep out of the level indicator
Engine turns over but will not start
Following your explanation, all I can advice is aside the ignition box making ticking sound which indicates that it might have a slight electrical fault, you will also need to replace the spark plug.
1. Replace the spark plug; if this does not resolve the situation at hand then; you might have to replace the ignition.
2. I also recommend you get a scantool for diagnosis which also will trim line your investigation and troubleshooting.

While turning engine over gas flows from overflow
It sounds like a problem with one of your carb floats. The float is supposed to shut off fuel flow to the carburetor when the bowl is filled with gas. It may be stuck down or just not floating (can happen if it's damaged or has a hole in it). You can do this at home, but if you're not comfortable working on a carb yourself you should visit a mechanic.

sounds like a fuel system problem If the machine has been laid up I sugest you drain the fuel from both the tank & carby remve the fuel line from the tank make sure that there is adequate fuel flow from the tank if this proves to be good you might also want to check the inlet manifold for leaks if it is sucking air this can cause to weak a mixture ie to much air try starting it with the choke closed if it starts on choke it is almost certainly a leaking inlet manifold all the best Geoff

Yes I need to know how to properly adjust the
Hi
Same as any four stroke engine. Usually cold. remove the fuel tank and Rocker covers, small inspection bolt near top of gear case.
Simply rotate engine to TDC (With spark plug out) (Top dead centre) as indicated by aligning timing marks through inspection bolt hole.
Using feeler gauge with correct thickness selected (As per manufacturers handbook) (I do not have them)
Now insert the feeler gauge between the rocker arm and tip of the valve. If you do not know how to identify an exhaust valve to an inlet one the exhaust ones are by the exhaust pipe, inlet ones are by the intake manifold. If tappet settings are the same for both then no problem, if different (Inlets always less than the exhaust)
When adjusting loosen lock nut and gently alter gap until you can just pull feeler gauge out, recheck after tightening. Be patient as some can take along time to adjust correctly unless you have done a few.
