Engine making very loud noise when started
have you compression tested the cylinders ? if you dont have a gauge you can remove spark plugs and put your finger in plug hole and crank over and see if it blows your finger out ! could have bent the inlet or exhaust valves as well as the piston !
I have a 2002 Yamaha V-Star, I just purchased a new sealed battery, and it starts the bike fine, but as soon as I shut her off, it wont start back up !
Have you done all the regular stuff? There
are a number of interlock safeties on this bike. To start, key on of course,
side stand up or in neutral, if in gear and clutch is engaged, it will not
start, if the kill switch is in the off position, it will not start. Said
differently, you must have the key in the on position, side stand retracted,
transmission in neutral, clutch pulled in, kill switch in run position. Still
will not start, check the start solenoid for proper operation. If that works ...
suspect the starter motor.
Battery keeps losing its charge
remove the neg cable and place a test light between cable and post and see if light comes on,if so then start removing fuses until it goes out that will narrow down your problem, if the light does not come on have the battery check it could have a faulty cell
I have a ignition problem. One cylinder is
But did you also change the spark plug cap? It unscrews off the end of the wire . It should read 5000 OHMs any reading higher or lower and you replace the cap. NGK caps run about $5 each . I always recommend replacing them as a set.
Hello,
My name is Gary O.
I
u need a repair manual for starters--if oil is gritty its time for change-or u may just get new filter--straight 30 wt is good--the front bottom will be cooler cause of air flow-top has diff fins and combust is there--body care is like cars
The motorcycle will run in the on position of the
problem is probably the fuel petcock try this test disconnect the fuel line and get a good length of clear line enough to reach a container hook it up to the petcock and turn the petcock in the on position and observe the flow of fuel to see if it is flowing freely try this in the on and the reserve position.
if it id restricted remove the petcock and clean the obstruction of rebuild or replace it.
My cycle would start but die when I give it gas so
Did you also drain the carbs when you drained the tank? You may have a vacuum controlled fuel valve which won't let the new gas into the carbs. If you can crank the motor long enough it should open and fill the carbs. Otherwise you can **** on the vacuum hose for half a minute and open the valve to fill the carbs that way. If it was sitting for a year or more it will likely need a carb cleaning, but it should run on new gas if it ran on old gas. Also if there is a fuel pump make sure it is working and any filter or screens in the tank fitting or inline that they are not blocked.
It starts but when I give it throttle, it dies.
It's sucking air somewhere around the intake. The easiest way to find it is to let it idle and take a can of wd-40 with the straw attached and work your way around every possable conection from the head to the carb spray a little and listen alot. It will speed up when you find the leak.
How do I drain the old gas out of my cycle that
Buy a gas can and pull hose off fuel filter and put it on reserve and let er rip. then drain all the float bowls bowls too! Buy some seafoam and add a little to your tank to clean out the vanish.
Battery keeps going dead
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
To your query, there are 2 major components of the charging system:
- stator - left side of the engine itself;
- regulator - right side, below the seat; would be behind the chrome cover below the battery.
A common problem with a VStar is burned, pitted or corroded terminal pins/connectors from the stator to the regulator.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
