Won't idle smooth-#2 cylynder back fires while idleing
could be the carb or EFI system , a sticking valve or check fuel filter, try changing the oil and add some marvel mystery oil to it then start and let idle.you should also check your plugs and wires again to make sure one isnt loose and you didnt foul a plug
Loss of power and back firing. misses out like
check your plugs all of them. after that and you still have a problem you will want to do a compression test on your cylinders. you may have a valve problem. if that is not the case the only thing after that would be the timing.
Speedomet starts and stops erratically
The battery probably has nothing to do with it.
If the speedometer is mechanical, then most likely the cable has become loose and needs to be tightened. If that doesn't correct the problem, the cable itself may be bad.
I have a 2002 V-Star Classic. I recently had new
Why did you have new carbs installed? If the new ones have bigger throats, there might not be sufficient air velocity to pick up fuel when accelerated. The starter problem sounds like the over-running clutch on the starter shaft has oil on it or the chain from the starter to the engine is off/broken. The whine is due to the starter being unloaded and trying to self-destruct from over-revving.
Timing chain tensioner adjustment
all v twin engines are noisy, if you could totally silence the exhaust noise, you would be horrified how awful the motor sounds, it could probably do with the cam chain tensioner ADJUSTING. i wouldn't think it would need replacing. unfortunately the manual only recomends this being done by a qualified tech, i have a xvs 650 with same trouble. i would adjust myself if i could find out the correct tollerences.
Yamaha v star not charging after been sitting for over a year
right side of machine, remove the cover below the battery box, you will have to remove or loosen front exhaust. the regulator is a finned black box held in with two 10mm hex bolts. remove regulator and disconnect the connector. the three white wires are the a/c input to the regulator. start the engine and at high idle, there should be 42 volts between each of the wires, make sure you test all of the wires and there is no missing voltage between a pair which would indicate that one phase is not working. if all is well, ohm black wire to ground on engine to make sure the ground path is good or the regulator will not work. reconnect the regulator, hook volt meter across the battery and notice reading, then start the engine and run up the rpm, you should see a voltage rise. if it does not, the regulator has open diodes. as a note, if you do not get an a/c reading at the regulator side, remove cover under tool box and check the alternator by doing the same wire pairs as mentioned before at the connector side going into the engine. if you have a/c there, check wiring from other connector side to regulator. if you have no a/c then you have a bad stator. yamaha uses a 3 phase permanent magnet alternator and the coil resistance should be around an ohm. this reading is relative unless you have a good meter as resistance of the leads and how well of a connection you made will affect the reading.
Motorcycle battery is hot
Did it ever blow up? Could have had an internal short.. It thought you were going for the turn signals and scared the **** out of it when you hit the starter instead.
2002 VStar1100 balks under load
Sometimes it is hard to tell at low speeds if the fuel mix is too lean or if it is too rich. Simple to work at though. Let's say the mix is too lean. Remove the slide from the throat of the carb then move the clip on the jet needle down one notch. This richens the low end mix. Try it out. If it is better then try another notch. Choose which is best.
Now lets say the original mix is too rich. Remove the slide from the throat of the carb then move the clip on the jet needle up one notch from the original clip position. This leans the low end mix. Try it out. If it is better then try another notch. Choose which is best.

I have lost my key to my yamaha 1100 vstar classic
Assuming your dealer can't do it, just as a matter of customer relations he should find someone who can.Find and contact the regional manager for Yamaha and ask for his assistance.
Worst case is you go to a locksmith and have him make a key from impressions on a blank key. Call a few locksmiths to see who has some key blanks and is able to do the magic.
Alternate to all the above is to Google " motorcycle salvage yamaha " and get a good used switch for cheap.
