Why does my 1995 Yamaha XJ900S Diversion use so much oil (1 LITRE PER 1000 MILES)?

Question edited for full make and model. Question moved from Cars and Trucks. Wow, that is a lot of oil. You must leave a blue haze behind you. You need a top end rebuild, check and replace piston rings, check and replace valve seals. Perhaps even re-chrome the bore and rebore and hone. https://www.google.com/search?q=1995+Yamaha+XJ900S+Diversion+burning+oil ..

Sounds like its only running

Try replacing the spark plug caps. A bad spark plug cap can cause a miss at idle. NGK makes an inexpensive replacement for about $5 each. Simply unscrew the old ones off the end of the wire and screw on the new ones. If you want to test your caps they should read 5000 OHMS on a volt meter. No higher and no lower. If the read high or low replace them.

Just built a motorbike an sidecar outfit and if

The only sure cure is leading link front forks
You can try fitting a steering damper to minimise wobble but all telescopic forked sidecar outfits tend to have a wobble at some speed, it doesn't seem to matter how you alter the lean & toe-in

Hope this helps (if so please mark as helpful !!)

Motorcycle starts and runs with

Hi.

To start ensure that you have checked and replaced the air filter element. To replace the element you need to remove the fuel tank, then remove filter cover, held by three screws, and finally replace the filter, as in pictures below:

Filter cover:

If replacing air filter does not fix the problem, then you have to work on carburetor settings, first adjusting the throttle cable, then working on the carburettor synchronization.

The first part of the settings, adjusting the carburetor cable, is not a difficult operation, while synchronizing the carburettors requires experience and a good hear for the engine. I suggest to have this last operation done by a mechanic if necessary.

Here the whole procedure:
  1. Part 1 (throttle cable adjustment)
  2. Part 2 (synchronization A)
  3. Part 3 (Synch B).

Regards.

I have a 2002 Yamaha SR125 and my original Speedometer has packed in. Everything works apart from the mileage. Does anyone know how to wind the Clock back?

This is a highly ill - eagle act to do. In the old days we would put an electric drill on the drive cable, but now they make them tamper proof so they only go one way. The bezels are crimped on so you can't get inside them. I expect modern one may be electronic. How will your insurance company know what mileage you have done? I have never known an insurance cancel or fine due to mileage. You should have just disconnected it when you got close to the limit. Buy a used one and use them for 6 months in turns. There are two or three here 23K and one with 36k https://www.google.com/search?q=2002+yamaha+sr125+speedometer ..
