2000 Yamaha YZF-R6 - Page 7 Questions & Answers
Hello my name is jeremy
A bad oil seal on the water pump assembly is the problem. The seal can go bad and let the tranny oil get into the cooling system.
The motor makes a ticking
G'day. A ticking noise from the valve cover could be a loose cam chain or a loose valve clearance.Since the YZF's have under bucket shims to adjust the valve clearances, you have little choice other than to have them checked/adjusted at your local bike shop/dealer. To locate and narrow down noises I use a neat automotive stethascope I got from my local tool shop for $25.A screwdriver placed against your ear & touched to the cover in several places may help you narrow down if its the cam chain or the valve clearance.
Sorry I cannot be more helpfull(this is not to say that I do not know how to adjust under bucket valves as I do.It takes specialised equipment & knowledge to undertake this task).
Kind regards Andrew Porrelli
My bike does not want
Did you put fuel stableizer in for winter time? This is a fuel additive that helps the fuel not turn into a varnish in the carbs. If the bike sits for any period of time, this can happen. (BAD GAS) is what i call it. I have see the new gas go bad in as little as 2 weeks!! Anyway check to see what the gas smells like and if your not sure what new gas smells like go fill up a 5 gal container and use as a reference aginst your fuel in the motorcycle. Also, does it idle smoothly? If not, the carbs could be out of sync. Keep me posted and let me know what you find.. Good luck Sincerely HDTV GURU JAY
How do you set the timing on a yamaha warrior 350
hello, get piston up on tdc, hold finger on spark plug hole turn engine untill finger blows off, that should be compression stroke. take screwdriver in hole make sure piston is all the way up, take timing cover off top gear, there is a v mark inside the motor , make sure gear marks and timing chain is all aligned upp, timing chaing should have a different colored link, aligned this with mark on gear-chain and the mark on the motor, it looks like a v or a point, you have to remone the top gear cover to see this, once they are all aligned it should be in time, piston has to be up all the way on compression stroke, really its pretty simple....
I was putting on some new handle grips and the
Use a continuety tester or digital volt ohm meter and check for contiuos flow throught the switch. By that i mean find the two wire for the cut off switch, insert 1 probe into each one set the meter to resistance, it should have near 0 with the switch one way and near infinite with the switch the other way, that will tell you if the wire and switch are intact and working. If it passes this test repost another question and i will help
My 2000 plate r6 starts
recheck all the battery and wire connections, take the volt meter with you next ride, to check the bat voltage if it stops again.
The stator can develop a layer short, which can be intermittant due to heat and vibration.

Were is the thermostat on the r6 i want to
the thermostat would be the same as a car, basically look for the biggest coolant hose coming from the radiator, drain the coolant, take the hose off and voila! there it is. just uncrew the two bolts, switch it out, put bolts back in, conect hose, and pour in the specified amount of coolant.
Why do my yamaha sniper only take 110 in speed
Hi there,
There are a lot of factors to consider when it comes to motorcycle speed. Some factors are displacement, jetting, intake and exhaust, timing, gearing and weight control.
Your yamaha sniper takes only 110kph because it was built not to exceed that speed. 110 is already fairly high for that type of motorcycle. If you want top speed but sacrifice on power and acceleration, use a smaller gear on the rear sprocket.
Hope this helps,
levibit

HI I THINK IT IS BEST TO FIRST SHECK THE COMPRESION IN THE CYLINDERS, USING A COMPRESION TESTER FITED INTO THE SPARK PLUG HOLE, SPIN OVER THE ENGINE AND CHECK THE READING RECORDING IT, ON PAPER FOR EACH CYLINDER WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS ON ALL 4 CYLINDERS CHECK OVER YOUR RECORDED NOTES, IT IS NOT ALWAYS LIKELY THE READINGS WILL BE AS SPECIFIED IN THE WORKSHOP MANUAL AS A BIKE OF 10 YEARS OLD WOULD HAVE LOST SOME OF ITS ORIGINAL COMPRESION, BUT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A READING SIMILAR ON ALL 4 CYLINDERS, IF 1 IS SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THEN YOU COULD HAVE A PROBLEM WHERE THE PISTON OR PISTON RINGS HAVE FAILED, 1ST TRY THE AFORE MENTIONED CHECK BEFORE YOU START GETTING INVOLVED IN ANY EXPENSIVE REBUILD, IF YOU WERE TO REMOVE THE ENGINE OIL FILLER AND RUN THE ENGINE, IT WOULD BE QUITE NORMAL TO EXPERIENCE SOME SORT OF PRESSURE HERE ALTHOUGH IT COULD GET MESSY AS OIL WILL EMERGE, HOPE THIS HELPS
Spark plus position,I toke those out and forgot
HI YES THAT IS THE CORRECT LOCATION OF THE CYLINDERS, AS YOU SIT ON THE MACHINE STARTING FROM THE LEFT, NUMBER1, 2&3 ARE THE MIDLE CYLINDERS AND NUMBER 4 IS THE R/HAND SIDE, THE PLUG LOCATION AS INDICATED ON THE COIL LEAD FOR EACH CYLINDER

Remove old gas, and replace fuel filters, Remove spark plugs and if over a year old replace, if oil
is on plugs , you need to do a top end on your motor. Just check everything out good and if plugs
are just wet and no oil visible. That is a good thing . just plugs. Good luck
