hi,i used to have one of these,from memory,when you get the battery out as far as you can you have to disconnect the terminal before it will come any further,mr yamaha didnt believe in making long cables,and if i remember i used to take the seat off and disconnect the other terminal before i even started trying to get it out,if you think getting it out isnt much fun,they are worse to get back in,and i am afraid that there is no easy way to do it as there is absolutley no room at all to work in.hope this helps ..cheers ian
had a similiar prob with a triumph. It backfired at low revs, a delay between throttle opening and revs increasing and bike felt like it wanted to stall at low speeed. Got the Carbs cleaned to find out the problem was infact Failing Ignition coil. Get those checked first before commiting to replacing other parts.

May 21, 2012 - According to the manual tap link above the lower tank needs removal to get to the solenoid. The instructions for this are in the Haynes manual.

Just measure the distance (eye hole to eye hole centerline), measure the mounting hole/stud size, then approximate the overall weight and order some for an aftermarket co.
