1997 Yamaha Royal Star XVZ 1300 A - Page 7 Questions & Answers
Hi i have a 1997 xvz 1300 and itis leaking fuel from the carby overflow when running
Add a good amount of Berryman Chemtool to the gas (half a can is OK, an engine will actually run off straight Chemtool) and run it for 3 to 5 minutes then shut it off. Let it sit overnight. Start it up the next day and take it for a ride, running it for 15 minutes and check to see if it has stopped overflowing. Should have cleaned it out. If this does the trick, get some Marvel Mystery Oil and add the proper amount each time you gas up. That will keep it clean and free of deposits.
How do i adjust the monoshock
there should be a c spanner in the tool kit. place it on the shoulder of the unit, match up the groves with the spanner and turn. might be stiff so use wd40. have a cup of tea and then start. make sure the shock s clean. watch your fngers.

When you cleaned the carbs you left the adjusting needles in. Turn the needles in and count the number of turns before they bottom. Write it down for reference as a starting point. You will need to take the carbs apart again and take the needles out as well to reclean them. The needles interact with the jets and when you did the cleaning the first time, it sounds like something got loose and lodged inside. If you want to give a try without taking the carbs off, remove the needles and use the tube from the carb spray to 'inject' the carb through the vent hole. This may force the crud out through the needle holes.
