Maxim. Does it use motor oil and transmission oil or just one fluid?

One of those drain plugs MIGHT be your neutral indicator detent spring and ball. MAKE SURE its in neutral before removing either plug. The other one is the oil drain plug. Both will drain oil, but the neutral detent will not get all the oil out,

1982 Yamaha XJ 650 will not start

Sounds like classic fuel starvation. Clean carburetors, fuel lines and tanks. Fill with fresh fuel and attempt to start.

No front brake pressure

bleeding brakes on bikes is a pain in the ssa they really are tesing of onse gumption, I had to take out bleed nipple once and fill the cals with a syringe, messy but can be effective, rears are worse in my opinion.

No clutch

Yes this is evident in replacing engine oil to motorcycle engine.

Engine oil designed for automobiles isnt good for motorbikes as they offer additives for added "slipping". THis will cause your clutch to slip. Automobile Engine's oil system is separate from the clutch while motorcycle's clutch and engine fall under one oil system.

Use engine oil designed for motorcycles.
Solution: Buy and Engine flush, pour it to your crankshaft, run the engine for 5 minutes (idle) then drain. Replace with new motorcycle oil.

My yahama maxim 650 wont full start running but it sounds like it wants too

Hey Nick, unfortunately it could be several things. As Tom Diffin mentioned carb gummed up or even bad fuel from sitting all winter. If your positive the spark plug is firing (pull plug, connect to plug wire, place within a couple mm of a metal bolt, CAUTION: hold with insulated pliers so you don't get shocked, bump starter and watch for a spark) then try a very small squirt of fuel (starting fluid would be great) into the park plug hole and replace the plug. Try to start if the engine fires and then dies you have narrowed it down to carb, fuel or timing. FYI get a motorcycle repair or operators manual that describes how to winterize your bike for long storage (check library, you can read for free and make a photo copy of a page cheap). Keep us updated and good luck.

I need a diagram of the vacuum lines on a 1983

The only vacumn lines on a Maxim 650 is the small line from the fuel petcock that turns it on when there is intake suction. It can be connected to any intake manifold But is usually connected to cyl. # 2 left to right. The 4 vent hoses to the carb tops just hang down the back of the motor.
