Sounds to me like the bike is not recharging thebattery as it runs, and when you turn of the ignition the battery regains about 30%of its charge which allows you to run again, connect a multi meter to the battery with the ignition off, you should have 12 to 14 volts preset, now run the bike the voltage should rise to aprox 12-16 volts DC any readin lower than 12 volts could indicate a charging problem, hope this helps

Get the main fuse checked. This main fuse gives power to all other fuses in the fuse box. This is main battery fuse. When this fuse blows the bike will loose all its power.Open the side cover and access the main fuse and replace it.Then check. The bike should get power. If the problem is same after replacing main fuse then its wiring problem, the battery or battery connecting terminals are not connected right.---------
The voltage to battery, the stator, the ignition switch the fuse box under the seat needs to be checked.---------
The main fuse is typically located outside the fuse box on the starter solenoid or next to it. Follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid and look there.--------

sounds like a fuel problem, maybe blocking fuel tap pickup in the tank, they often have filters on the ends inside the tank, If it has a vacumn opperated fuel tap, they can sometimes stick shut, if so try turning it to PRI between on and reserve, next time it happens.
Its not likely to be anything electrical if it starts again so quickly
