Take the bike out for a ride and when this happens pull over and open up the gas cap. If it starts back up and keep on running then you have found the root cause - your gas tank's vent is clogged, you will need to have it cleaned out and serviced. Basically a clogged gas cap vent causes the bike to vapor lock and prevents fuel from flowing.

Hi Tony what was problem with original ECU? They don't usually cause this problem. An ECU either works or it doesn't check the plug and lead to see if they are breaking down and allowing the spark to jump. Regards Jim...

If it runs, or at least wants to run when using the starter fluid, then I would think that it is a fuel delivery problem. This could be a carb problem (blocked jets, incorrect settings etc.) or that the fuel is not getting to the carb (blocked filter, line, faulty fuel tap). Make sure plugs, air filter, fuel filter and fuel itself are all as they should be as often it is the little things that are the main cause of problems.

I would suspect you have an ignition problem. Diagnosing over the net is tough without hearing and feeling it - you know what I mean. Is there any recent history with the bike - was it layed down, worked on, modified, run really hard, has it been in storage - what kind of recent history do you have for this bike?

Check out the side stand safety switch, check if the switch is sticking remove any grease or dirt that may prevent the piston returning

Sounds to me like dirt in the tank or a dirty fuel filter ... possibly dirt in the tank valve, maybe some water?

If this were my trouble, I think I would first try some gas treatment and look for a filter.

Use any oil that is a JASO MA rated/certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you use Synthetic oils, they will help your motorcycle run cooler and shift easier. Suzuki sells an excellent 15w-50 full synthetic motorcycle oil that is reasonably priced.

Yes, you are right. It is the fuel pump. Fix or Replace and your good to go.

A customer of mine wanted me to change his fuel pump, because his didn't work.
When i was taking it off the bike i noticed a broke wire - fixed the broke wire and the fuel pump worked - check the wires to it too. It happens, saved him alot of money.

Change fuel filter. If this doesnt help check engine compression, if it is low that is more then likely your problem. If compression ok then it is fuel pump.
