Fuel system schematic
Are any of the fuel lines kinked? Some fuel may be getting through but not enough to run properly.
Is the tank "breathing"? Open the tank filler cap and try again to see if it runs properly. If it does, then as the fuel is being drawn from the tank a vacuum is caused because no air is venting into the tank. Check the vent (usually in the cap)
How to ajust idle
These carbs are really sensitive so the adjustment should be done by a mechanic who has the fuel pressure tools etc. It is a big job just getting to them.
I would really recommend taking to the shop although it is expensive. You can check for videos on youtube to see if they have it available. I know this is not what you wanted to here but its the best advise I can give.
Drain plug location
Sorry I haven't been on here in awhile.
The oil drain plug is underneath and at the back of the motor in the middle of the u shaped frame. Its a good sized plug so easy to spot once you look there.
2000 Suzuki intruder 1500 when I fill gas tank
I am not sure if your gauge is working right. after sitting for the winter. mine will not work. I pull the seat off and unbolt the sensor. pull it out and use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts gently. then put it back and and most times it starts working. not sure what yours looks like. mine is a 99 light that blinks
How to check steering stem bearings
place bike on centre stand raise front wheel then pull and push back on bottom of fork leg if any play is found tighten steering damper,if you still have play replace bearings
STARTER
make sure hot wire not grounding.--also check starter button.could be bad or sticking.
Stalls then won't restart
The starter may be dragging when hot. This is caused by an internal starter problem, Bearings or likely brushes. This can be repaired. Don't just replace it.
The stalling problem could be a fuel vapor lock. The fuel line gets hot and the fuel boils in the line. Rerouting the fuel line to a cooler place should help.
Replace clutch plate
Hi, takes a while to do but reasonably easy. Only downside is you need a few special tools to lock the clutch cage and remove the clutch. These tools are not cheap and most bike workshops won't lend them out readily. You can try though or see if anyone you know has the necessary tools. Good luck.
Motorcycle starting problem
For an engine to run, you must have spark, air and fuel. If you have spark at the proper time (it was running - nothing changed, right) you have air (air filter not clogged, right - choke not on - engine not flooded, right?) you have fuel and the fuel valve is in the ON position ... engine is turning over ... check the basics. Next step would be to inspect the spark plugs. After you check these things and all is in order and it still will not start, get a pro to take a look at it. You don't want to make it worse by poking it with a stick, take my word for this. Thanks for your interest in FixYa.com
Carb adjustment
2 things. A carburetor can be adjusted if you have any vacuum ports on the engine. With the engine running, use a Vacuum gauge and adjust the air mix to the highest vacuum setting, then turn the adjustment lean until Vacuum falls 1/2 to 1 inch of pressure. Sometimes with multi-carbs a flow gauge is needed to balance air flow through each carb.Try what I recommend. You are listed in Cars and Trucks section. The Motorcycle section may be better for you.
Location fuel shut off
Typically left hand side about where your knee is at the bottom of the tank. I am not familiar with the VLK 1500. Should be close.
