1989 Suzuki GSX 750 F (Katana) engine knocking noise

hi sad news the gs/gsx engine is one of the more rebust engines ever designed with regular services and oil change i personally have witnessed one of these engines do 160k miles and was still going strong ahha this is a problem that no computer can diagnose and one for the real mechanic a real mechanic are rare breeds now and anybody can be a fitter so words of wisdom do not confuse the two ("there are so many fitters that claim to be mechanics") when all they have done is replace a like part right depending on where your knocking noise is coming from and what sort of noise it is tapping , knocking or rumble (tapping) could be cam or cam followers in need of adjustment or replacement but could also be piston slap a good mechanic would tell you what it was just by listening to the engine a (knocking) would be your big end bearings a (rumble) would be your main bearings either of these second two would mean a complete engine strip and crank overall and can be very costly unless you are in the position to do it yourself to do it yourself you would need the standard tools plus a workshop with a lathe, milling machine and bench press, you will need all of these tools so it may pay to buy a recon crank or a good second hand one if you feel like doing the engine strip or possibly a second hand engine the550 and 650 will also fit in your frame the 850 was a shafty and would need a lot of frame mods to get this engine in your frame you may squeeze a 1000 in the frame if your jack the front frame down tubes open a little bit of a clue look around collage or uni where they do auto engineering courses because when they ship these bikes in and on testing it does not work they will just replace the engine and wiring and give the engine to a collage or uni that engine has done zero milage and has just been stripped down and rebuilt good luck let me know how you get on if you need a complete workshop manual here is a free download place i have looked and they have one for your bike Free Suzuki Motorcycle Service Manuals for download

Check your sidestand switch. It might think your stand is down so clean it and spray with WD40. Road grime and corrosion gets everywhere :(

Bike wont start when I spray with ether it will

When spraying with ether, if it runs for about 10-20 seconds and dies, the carb idle circuits are plugged up.

Last year the Battery Died,

Hi, firstly you are probably rite about the clicking being related to a discharged battery, i would suggest you try some jump leads of a car or another battery my guess is it will start or turn over and the clicking will stop, suzuki motorcycles of this eara did have some charging probs, running with a discharged battery for a prolonged period is not recomended.Secondly its not unusual for even a new battery to become low state even when left continuasly on chage with a trickle charger, and eventually the battery.becomes dead through overcharging

Want to change seals on GSX 750 F 89/90 k have

It is quite a normal process for the removal, front wheel off, then loose the forks holding screw, normally a pair at the top, near the handle and another pair at the bottom, close to the lower part of the forks. Once these are done, try to twist the forks clockwise manually with a solid grip. If it rotates, then carry on with an anti clockwise motion while you pull it. Do it on each and they should come off. After that it is simply easy to pull out the old seals and replace them. Putting back is the reverse of what I said but ensure you check your alignment and steering handle are in a straight position before you tighten all the screws that hold the fork tubes in place. I have omitted the brake calipers, speedo switch here as I assume it is a straight forward task. Any doupt please ask.Good luck.

Do u know the firing order for a 89 suzuki

89 Katana uses two coils, one fires cylinders 1 and 4 together and the other fires 2 and 3 together. It's a waste spark system. So your firing order is either one coil or the other every revolution.

I have an 89 Suzuki GSX750F when I try to

taking into account the age of this machine the first thing I would be chesking would be the inlet manifold rubbers the easiest way to do this is to warm her up & with it idleing spray wd40 directly on the rubber manifolds if they are perrished as I suspect you will notice an increase in the idle speed if this occuresyou will need to remove the carbys & replace said manifold rubbers to acces thes you will need to remove the seat & tank once you have done this loosen the worm drive hose clamps carby & airbox this will allow the removal of the carbies & seeing as youve gone to the trouble of removeing them I would suggest you strip & clean them before refitting also remove & clean air filter hope that this is of assistance

I can't seem to find the right adjustement because

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, it is not a clutch / mechanical issue but an electrical one. Check, clean, bypass or replace the sidestand switch or its wires. Do the same for the clutch switch.

Should you be interested, the wiring diagram for a 1989 GSX750 Katana maybe viewed here.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

I just got a hyosung gt250r and the hose goin off

Most likely it's a sticking float. It's an overflow hose that it's coming out of. Have your carb cleaned thoroughly.

Really need help with hose diagram

If you see here number 14 is where you attach the fuel pipes.Number 6 are the carb's overflow pipes which you drive them through steady route towards the ground. They don't attach anywhere.Number 16 is the vacuum hose which goes behind the fuel **** assy (number 1).Check out those diagrams and see if you can find any help.
