this is a real issue, my sons did this, we removed the filter and it runs well, but not sure of the cure, try it remove the filter.

check (test) your fuses,and kill switch.

Probably a broken cable where the insulation has not been broken by the shock load, have a look at the ground terminal area it can look ok but a pull on it to feel any stretch will do it and if not try others in battery area, test main fuse they can look visually ok but may be fractured.

Check the fuses with an Ohmmeter and then check for disconnected wires.

More than likely it is not adjustable because that is normally and upgrade for most bikes since the factory ones are preset. Go here and that will give you an idea of what the part looks like, it will be sticking out the back of the cylinders.

It is not at all unusual for an exhaust change to change the torque characteristics of the motor. That's the whole reason for putting on a new exhaust (unless you just want to make more noise.) Have you examined dynamometer runs from your engine showing the stock output vs. the s/steel motad headers output? How do the two compare? Have you changed carburation at all?

Check the starter relay, solenoid and fuses

The clutch plates are dragging. This causes the clutch shaft to turn even when the bike is in neutral and the clutch is dis-engaged ( handle pulled in ). When the shift fork moves to engage 1st gear, the bike jumps due to the shaft rotation. When was the last oil change? Dirty oil can cause clutch drag. Also, are you using synthetic lubricants? Some of them can swell the cork on the friction plates and that swelling causes dragging.

Cheap answer try your plugs they may be fouling,

does it idle ok ? were the jets removed and cleaned ? is your plug gap correct ? check on those and get back to me.

Change bulb?

You should ride with high beam in bright daylight anyway (for safety) unless it is exceptionally bright.

If the brushes have worn out then all you will get is as you describe. You will get similar results if there is a bad connection on the starter motor as well. Check the power with a bulb connected with flex.
Changing the brushes is easy. Don't pay a fortune for a new starter!
