Hi i have a 2003

Manufacturer recomeds tensioner @ 40k but please change them at 35k. My rear tensioner failed @ 40150 ks and two bent valves, valve stem seals, head gasket + the two 50$ tensioners + labour, i was back on the road. as for the servicing i personally have been doing 5k oil and 10k oil and filter change. As long as the service intervals are with in six months apart i dont think you wil have a problem. If you dont do many k's change your oil at least once every six months-oil is cheap.

Where can I buy a new ignition switch

any honda dealer shoud be able to provide you with a new ignition barrel wich is cheaper than a complete switch & provideing the mongrels who knocked it of didnt hack the wireing loom to bits somewhat easier to install you might also want to check with your local locksmith before going to the dealership he may be able to repair & rekey the exsisting switch however if you do have to replace the switch as a complete unit the electrical conection is not to daunting from memory its multiplug conection so diference in colour code wont be a problem

My honda firestorm keeps blowing the headlight fuse when i turn the ignition on

Hi, If the headlight is normally illuminated as you switch on the ignition ( i.e. for safety/ visibility ) it may be something as simple as a faulty bulb ( short circuit ), To check simply unplug the connector to the rear of the headlight unit. Failing that, check the wiring around the steering head. It may have rubbed against the frame and caused a short. Hope this helps Regards Stan

Biting point on clutch lever is right at the end ITs hydraulic

1st and easiest is to check your clutch reservoir for low fluid. Also check to see if it is dark or dirty (may mean junk has clogged it). Hope that helps with limited info.

My Honda VTR 1000 motorcycle

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The initial questions presents a workable approach:
  • test the relay by by-passing it;
  • connect the wiring from the battery directly to the red wire;
  • leads to the main fusebox;
  • wiring the main fusebox from the battery dangerous to the harness.
Proposed test procedures with notes:
  1. switch ignition switch to ON;
  2. with a short piece of electrical wire, jump from the battery's + terminal to the red wire coming from the starter relay;
  3. do the same with the red/white wire;
  4. if indicator lights lit up, then main 30A fuse maybe good but its fuse spade connector(s) are not. replace starter relay;
  5. alternately, clean the fuse holder terminals;
  6. if still no indicator lights, move the jumper wire from the starter relay red wire of the ignition switch;
  7. if indicator lights would be lit, then an open wire / connector from the starter relay to the ignition switch;
  8. if still no indicator lights, move the jumper wire to the red/black wire of the ignition switch;
  9. if indicator lights would be lit, then a faulty ignition switch;
  10. if indicator lights would still not lit, move the jumper wire to the fuse box's red/black wire.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Petrol in my engine oil chamber why

If you're getting fuel into your oil, your fuel delivery system is leaking. This problem is most common on carburated engines. The needle valve is not seating properly and when the engine is stopped, the carburator is flooding and the fuel is flowing into the engine. Once it gets into intake manifold, it seeps past the valves into the cylinder. Then it seeps past the rings into the crankcase contaminating the oil. If your bike is fuel injected, the same thing is happening because the fuel is pressurized by the fuel pump and your injector(s) are leaking fuel into the engine.

On a carb equipped machine there us usually a petcock to turn the fuel off with. You can either turn the petcock off each time you turn the bike off (a good practice) or you can have the carburator repaired. Some late model bikes have a vacuum operated petcock that automatically turns the fuel off when the engine is stopped. If your bike is equipped with this type of petcock, the petcock could be defective or is positioned in the "prime" position. If you go into the carbs (I think your bike has two carbs), replace the needle and check the float height setting according to the manual in both carbs.

If your bike is fuel injected, these devices are usually not easily servicable, simply replaced if they malfunction. You could try adding a bit of fuel injector cleaner designed for automotive use to your fuel. It may clean the injector (or needle in the case of carburators) and solve the problem. Otherwise, I'd probably take the bike to a repair shop.

Good Luck!

Engine holds back/misfires at 6500 - 7000 rpm and

Try to replace the fuel filter; sounds like a fuel problem, if it still gives you a problem check the air filter as well., first pull plugs and check if they are burned out or fowled out, what color is the spark plug? It should be white to brownish ash, if it is black and sooty then it's to rich if the gap is to wide then it's running to lean replace the spark plugs or re-gap them, the plugs are the cheapest thing to replace and can fail and cause the condition your describing, If it is clean then try adjusting fuel mix,if you need more help post here and I will try to answer any question you might have. Thanks for using fix-ya and please rate, as this is a free question and since I am a mechanic it takes me time to post this stuff. Thanks.
