2003 Honda CB 250 Nighthawk Questions & Answers
Rattle and slippage when engaging
Clutch plates may be worn. You would have to pull the side cover to inspect them. Honda clutch's always rattle at an idle when in neutral. If you just pull in the clutch lever the rattle will go away. Let the lever out and it will rattle again. As for the slippage, if your clutch cable is binding at all it will keep the clutch from fully engaging when you release the handle. This will cause the clutch to slip for a second or two until the cable fully releases from the bind. Any resistance in the cable and you should replace it.
I bought an 03' nighthawk a few weeks back and it
It needs four stroke motorcycle engine oil, dont use car engine oil it has friction modifiers that will cause clutch slip.
20w40 is fairly standard for most *** bikes
Go to a bike shop and they can advise and will have oil filters,
It often helps to bleed the brake fluid, and clutch if it has a hydraulic activated clutch.
There may also be a couple of grease nipples on the rear suspension
I live in Tampa, Florida. I bought the 2003 cb250
since you did not charge the battery in the two days of sitting I would suspect that maybe you have an intermittant kill switch issue, or a start button issue, or a starter issue. I would bring it back to the shop since they did not fix it yet. Then again its possible this problem was there before you bought the bike.
Battery access
its either 8mm or 10mm cant remember which for certain but its definately 1or the other
UNCOOPERATIVE AXLE NUT
If I recall correctly there is no split pin locking the nut in place. Look at the faces of the nut. Any drill hole filled with a pin? Grab a propane torch and heat the nut/bolt. Try not to burn the paint. Tap the nut faces with a small hammer to assist in breaking the nut free from the rust holding the nut in place.
Use a hex socket or hex box end wrench. If you have an impact driver, use it with the hex socket. If you don't have an impact driver I strongly suggest you get one. They are low cost and the most used tool in my shop. I sleep with mine close at hand. If that nut is going to break free the impact driver is what will do it.
Please rate this solution after the impact driver has removed the nut. Thanks for the top rating! :)
Difficult down shifting
Hi, There is no other adjustments besides clutch free play, however make sure you use proper oil type in engine/gearbox.
Motorcycle shuts off when put in gear
Usually this would be the side stand sensor. I would have thought that it would be normally closed circuit to operate though. Have you tried linking out the sensor wires? ie joining them together.
Honda CB250 won't rev
Sound like the cable may be damaged or is getting pinched somewhere. I would start at the handles and work your way down more than likely its at the top, Handle could be crumpled in slightly with the fall and pinching the acc-cable
