2002 Honda VTX Questions & Answers
2002 Honda VTX 1800. Bike starts when letting up on start button.
Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from Cars and Trucks.
That isn't enough voltage. It starts using the momentum when the starter cut power.Put the battery on a full size battery charger overnight and try again. Take it to an Interstate Battery shop and ask them to test it. Takes 2 minutes on the bike and you get a print out..
I layed my bike down gently and now it wont start.
Sounds like the battery terminals are loose. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's the most common cause of what you are describing. Just being a little loose will cause the power to fail until you turn the key off and on again.
Throttle control feels gritty when
need to take off and squirt loads of wd 40 on it and down the cable whilst pulling throttle back and forth till nice wont take long it works
HONDA VTX 1800c 2002 no ignition afther accident
There could be a "tilt" switch on the bike. Usually they are in the speedometer. This kills the ignition to the bike should it be dropped while riding. I don't know if it can be reset. Local dealer may can help.
Fan dose not seem to come on on 2002honda 1800vtxx
The fan will come on only when the engine reaches a certain amount of temperature. To test, try disconnect the wiring from the thermostat switch from the colling system and this should start the fan.Else you can leave the engine revs idle for some while and it may start the fan.If the fan starts and stops at some point do not worry about this. This is quite normal and it's the right way of its functionalities.
I recently purchased a 2002 vtx 1800 w/ 2400 miles
If the bike was not used that often, the previous owner may have started the bike in the garage, just to give the motor a run. With no air travelling over the pipes, they do get very hot.Enough to cause melting. This happens to almost any engine exhaust.(car or bike). If you run it in a garage even a household fan blowing on the pipes is enough to get rid of a lot of the heat.Hope this helps
New tire can't get reid of brake drag on front.
i could help better if i could look at it but make sure the wheel is on the bike right. the wheel should have some indication of direction on the discs or rim itself. if thats fine id say check to see if the disc is between the brake pads as it should be.
Honda VTX 1800 2002
The screw is the idle speed adjuster. Turn it clockwise and the idle will increase.

Rear brake pedal is soft and needs pumped to
Left handle bar should be for your clutch. Check for leaks in the system. You most likely have a leak, out of adjustment brake, or air in the rear brake system. Try bleeding the rear brakes and see if this helps.
How do i remove side covers?
I don't have a VTX in front of me to look at but sidecovers areusually secured by screws or plugged into rubber bushings. Inspect around the whole circumference of your side covers and if you don't see any fasteners or key locks then you just give them a firm even tug and they will pull away....Good Luck to you friend.....Tim
Fan not working on 2006
Could be a 10 AMP fuse near the battery or the thermal switch mounted on the radiator.
Hope this Helps

Engine shuts off when put in gear
There is a safety switch in the kickstand that does not allow the bike to run with the stand down. Could be that it is not shutting off properly when you put the kickstand up.

Honda 1300vtx vance hines back
That is usually typical of having exhuast leaks. If its just a pop pop pop... as your speed is reducing that can happen with a free flowing exhaust.
