Bike was starting fine but after about 30 minutes

Most starters have a plastic gear on them. You may have some broken gear teeth. This would allow the starter to spin yet not engage the engine flywheel.

What oil does it use

Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. If in a hot area like Texas or New Mexico go with 20w50.

Have an 84 VF 1000

Hi there

Sorry to hear your VF is giving you some dramas. Can often be difficult to pin down a problem like this. There are some things that you can do initially to eliminate things that may be going wrong

To remove the ignition system from the equation, First I would check to see that it is getting good bright blue spark when hot. It may be a coil breaking down when hot from running, it may be degradation in electrical connections in the wiring to the ignition. Good strong spark eliminates all of these things.

It may be a carburation problem, float levels incorrect, vacuum petcock not operating correctly, gummed up jets or metering passageways in the carbies. Put some fuel system cleaner additive in the tank and run 100k on it to see if that helps. I use Nulon, if you cant get that, talk to the guys at your local autoparts store, they will have a decent brand to sell you. Check the plugs when it is hot(and not starting) for spark, and to and see if they get wet with fuel. This would point to a float level/flooding problem, or just poor metering by carbies.

If you have a compression tester, is probably worth checking the compression when hot. A tired engine with low compression willl present problems starting.

The other thing to look into, and I cannot tell from your initial question if the starter itself is not cranking(at all or just not enough ) to start when hot. Perhaps you can clarify that for me.

Let me know of the things you have looked at or tried other than the charging system.

robotek

Starting problem with honda crf250r 09 model when cod or hot

I have a honda crf250 2009 model i recently brought it off a mate. Had the same problem could not get the thing started. Missed races cause of this... I worked out how to get it started. On Cold start, turn the fuel on give the throttle 3 full pumps. Then do not touch it! Put ur hand in the middle of the handlebars if need be. Kick start the bike still may take a couple kicks but on mine its generally about 2-4 kicks. Then through out the day when u want to start it do no twist that throttle it just squirts fuel in and u may as well just pack it up!! I know this is what i have to do not saying yours will be the same but i hope it all works out!!!

Can you bypass the fuel relay and run the fuel

No, the relay is being used to invert the input signal, so you can not bypass it

My Honda crf250r has trouble starting.

you better check for valve clearance.....and to be honest you're intake valve maybe to tight and kept open.....you will reajust it but this will last a ride or two...because maybe the mobdelium coating is done on the intake valve and it is getting tight all the time and kept open....put two new oem valve from honda and you will be back on the track....sometimes i also never rectify any angle on the seat of the valve, just put new one and go.....honda as getting better since 2007....more good quality of coating on the valve....if you bought new valve for an older model they will come with that upgraded and last longer.

Starting problems

I would start by checking your starter switch, ignition, the starter relay and then the kickstand saftey switch. There is a few things that happen when you start the bike. One, you depress the starter switch, the headlight shuts off, the starter relay closes and the bike starts. I'm not sure how or what creates this but I bet there is a relay somewhere along the line that cuts power to your headlight when you start the bike and its faulty and is causing both of the problems. It may stuck somewhere in the middle instead of open or closed. I would also suggest jumping your starter relay to see if it starts. If it doesnt, then it must in your ignition switch. Find your starter relay, there should be one red wire leading to it, another leading away. Very important... make sure your bike is in neutral.. the starter will fire not matter what. Take flat headed screw driver and connect the two post. It should fire right up. If it does, the lights should come on. It may be just enough to get that stuck relay unstuck.

Braskes

Check your brake resovoir and see what the level is, and it may be the caliper leaking. Clean it up and place it on jacks, have someone step on the brakes and see where it is leaking from, it could also be a brake line.

Cbr xx will not start with new battery installed.

hi there are the terminals clean and showing no signs of wear wires i should have said,if they are does the motor turnover or not if it does not clean the wires on the starter soliniod,is the fuel pump working when you turn the key on.it also depends on how long the bike was sitting, there also could be a chance that there might be a wire that has not been put on to the positive battery side sometimes they can slip down when you put new battery in check for this,if not it could be a blown fuse , hope this helps cheers

Honda PC50 moped VIN decoder

To read the serial number on a Honda PC50 moped, follow these steps: Locate the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): The VIN is a unique code that provides information about your moped. On a Honda PC50, you can find the VIN in the following places: Under the Air Filter Cover: Look on the left-hand side, just above the engine. The VIN should be stamped there. It typically looks like this: PC50 - 1234567. Frame Number: The frame number is another term for the VIN. It's usually located near the air filter body. Decode the VIN: The VIN contains important details about your moped, including the year of manufacture. Here's how to interpret it: The 9th digit of the VIN is a check digit. The 10th digit represents the year code. For example: A = 1980 B = 1981 C = 1982 D = 1983 E = 1984 F = 1985 G = 1986 H = 1987 J = 1988 K = 1989 L = 1990 M = 1991 N = 1992 P = 1993 R = 1994 S = 1995 T = 1996 V = 1997 W = 1998 X = 1999 1 = 2000 2 = 2001 3 = 2002 Note that if your scooter was manufactured between February 1986 and February 1987, it's likely to be a '87 model; Additional Resources: If you have the full VIN, you can use the NHTSA VIN decoder to get detailed information about your moped. Alternatively, you can call Honda with your VIN, and they will provide you with the necessary information.

Honda 500 TRX fa6 has PS on the dash….what does it mean ?

The Power Steering has failed. There has been a factory recall for a suddenly failing electrical steering shaft, that could cause the rider to loose control. This does not have to be your problem but anyhow either the electronics or the pump failed. Error codes or messages usually have to be erased by a simple reset procedure or disconnecting a plug, after repairs are done.

Leaving a bike for 21 years will do that. https://www.google.com/search?q=1985+Honda+Gold+Wing+1200+stuck+clutch ..
