!987 cbx250 will not idle

When sitting on your bike, Idle adjustment is on the RIGHT side of carb and will advance the idle setting as it is turned "Clockwise". Hope this helps you.

Fuel Leak from the Carburetor

Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Check the float as they can go bad and fill with gas such that they no longer float. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. The idle speed will probably different so adjust the idle screw to get back to where it was. This process should get you back on the road.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

Can't get my CB750to run right

Sounds almost like a timing problem. Have you had the head off? Has someone else?
You should be able to check the timing from the maunal. Valve and ignition.
If it's a fuel problem and it's popping through the exhaust it's too lean. Be sure you have the proper fuel filter and it's clean.

Not starting

turn off the fuel at the petcock, remove the fuel line from the carb, turn the fuel on, does it leak out? if not clean or replace fuel filter and petcock. If it does, remove and clean carb, check float and needle operation.

Hope this is of some help.

Does the fuel float go to front or rear of the tank ??

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Congratulations on the new bike.

The float of a fuel level sender always is positioned towards the lowest portion of the inside of the tank which is almost always, towards the rear. To test the gauge, with the ignition on, momentarily short the 2 wires going to the sender/float. The needle should indicate movement. Most fuel gauges are dampened (so that the needle does not flicker) and therefore it may take a couple of minutes for the reading to register.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Change the lube oil filter on a 84 Honda CBX250

The filter cover is located just above the dipstick and retained by three set bolts 8mm hex. Main cover seal is by a large O ring and there is a smaller O ring at the discharge port. The filter element is a paper type renewable cartridge and is fitted with a spring on the inner side and a rubber seal against the cover (outer side). Best to change the oil and filter when engine is warm/hot - caution hot oil! Thanks FixYa you were a help.
