2004 BMW R 1150 RT (ABS) - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Do you need a special tool to change to oil filter
Yes, but its not that special. Available from BMW parts specialists in the UK (motobins, motoworks etc). Dont try to remove the filter without one. The filter is recessed into the sump, and prevents access with a strap wrench. Dont be tempted to put a screwdriver thru the filter either.

leak in rear end (differential?)
you need an EP180 or EP190 oil in the dif i would go for the EP190 as its just a bit thicker and may stay in the dif a little longer,,,but fix the dif oil seal asap as the oil will spill out over the rear brake disk good luck!
What type of oil is recommended?
SAE 10W40 mineral oil, if more inclined can use SAE5W/30 semi synthetic. Brands is variable from Castrol, Valvoline, PenRay to name a few.
Overheated (3 hours gridlocked traffic), now pinging
put a multi meter on the battery, and check that the voltage when the bike is running is higher than when the bike is stopped, it may have spiked the regulator when jumped. I fit was jumped off a car the alternator tries to put out enough current to charge the car and this can stress the system
Were do you check trany fluid
On the right side, between the foot peg and the rear brake peddle, there are 2 plugs. Remove the top plug. Top off the oil level until it starts to run out then replace the plug. The lower plug is to drain the system.
Where in the fuse box is the fuse for heated
to Rideonronm;
I bought one of these ex police r1150rt,s 3 months ago
& thought i had a blown fuse for the heated grips- fuse box under the seat by the way-,turned out when the police de-commisioned the bike, they cut both 12volt wires going to the grips. My solution was to take the fairing off & re-connect both wires.....works fine now.
1st gear hard to find
You have a shift fork with just a slight bend in it. The problem will only get worse. Sorry about that.
Pleas rate this solution. Thanks!
Keeps blowing #6 fuse #6fuel pumpfuse? Why?
The only reason it blows a fuse is because there is a SHORT in the circuit. If you have a multi-meter, and know how to read it, you can find it fairly easy, but other wise it is trial and error. The short is most probably in the pump, so start there, and work back to the fuse box. If nothing is found, then the pump has to be taken apart to find what is going on.
