There is a short that is melting the negative terminal of battery . what cancause this

Hi John: One possible could be a bad connection or broken wires at the fitting. That would increase resistance which would result in a temperature increase. I'd make sure the connection was clean and secure, and that the wire was intact before looking further.

Why does the motor stall out when i engage the clutch?

It will have a side stand switch, which will kill the engine if the stand is left down, it opperates in conjunction with the switch under the clutch lever, and the neutral light
These side stand switches are small micro switches and often fail , wear out, or just come loose
The switch under the clutch seems to be ok , as it is doing what it is supposed to do, when it thinks the side stand is down

You need to spray some carb cleaner into the airbox as it idles. Also get the kind of carb cleaner that you put into the tank. If you have access to industrial chemicals, Heptane works wonders. And get those carbs syncronized, the pinging is because four cylinders are trying to accelerate at different rates. Good luck

I tried to start my '85 kawasaki 454ltd for the 1st time this

Sounds like a bad CDI box. That is part of the ignition. Do you use a fuel stabilizer when moth balling your bike each year? That may have been part of the backfire and shut off. Your bike having carbs may have gummed a little. Are you handy? Try spraying a small shot of starting fluid in the air cleaner, small shot! Just to make sure it's not a fuel problem. Try a different plug in the wire also. Sounds weird, because I'm pointing out fuel starve problem but the plugs could be fuel fouled. Anbd a new set of plugs for that bike shouldn't be that expensive and a good place to start.

Black reservoir box behind rear brake pedal on a 2006 vulcan what fluid goes in the reservoir

Hi Todd: Sounds suspiciously like it would be brake fluid. Check to see if it is connected to the rear brake master cylinder. (that's the thing that has a shaft that is connected to the brake pedal) Motorcycles like Grade 4.

Motor will start but knocks in clutch and shuts off when put in gear.

Your clutch is either out of adjustment or it's fried.

Took gas lines off of

Hi.

I have just sent you a comment on a different thread. I see that you posted the same question on separate thread. I am also posting here as I do not know if you are following both thread. Better to keep the problem on a single thread. Below my previous comment:

Hi.

There is no "diagram" showing the whole routing of fuel lines in the bike. You need to use different diagrams in Fuel System section of the service manual. Fuel system section starts at page 15 in service manual, but what you really need starts at page 40. I have posted fuel service manual at the end of comment.

There is one forum where users discussed the routing. One user has colored the diagram from service manual to indicate lines routing. Here the diagram:

ginko_152.jpg

Here the forum, I quote:

"The red and yellow are the fuel lines that go to the petcock. The green one you left unmarked also goes to the petcock. The line with a question mark is a vacuum line that connects to a part in front of the battery along with the larger lines to the cylinders."

Here the service manual in PDF format.

Regards.

Ginko
