Honad bogging down when accelerating.

If it has been sitting for a while, there may be varnish and gunk buildup in the carburetor from old fuel. The easiest way to find out is to remove the air cleaner and look inside the carburetor with a flashlight. If there is varnish you will definitely know it's there. While you have the air cleaner off take a look at the filter too.

While you're at it, pull the spark plugs and look at them, clean as necessary.

If it is indeed varnish buildup in the carburetor, pull it off and clean it and then pull the tank, drain it, put it back on and fill with fresh gas.

To keep this from happening again, when you put the bike up for the winter add some fuel stabilizer to the gas in the tank.

Front brake too stiff on 1984 Honda Shadow VT500C Shadow

You should have disc brakes??? They are not adjustable.
It is common for a caliper piston to freeze up or become corroded and bind up so it will not move freely.

1984 Honda interceptor brake light

Check the bulb first, check fuses, thn check if theres 'live' current to the brake light wire to the bulb socket (using a tester).
If theres no 'live' current to the bulb socket thn proceed to the brake light switch and check for the 'live' current to the wires there, one of the wires there should have a 'live' current of course having the igntion switch 'on'.
If theres is 'live' current there, thn the switch is faulty it may just need cleaning, try to clean by using WD-40,if it doesn't help thn replace it.
If you still have no 'live' current on any of the wires to the brake switch thn trace the wire (color) from the rear light socket and follow to the fuse box / ignition switch.
Hope this helps!

GOOD DAY,

Hi,
Your valve clearances should be:
Intake .08-.12 mm (.003-.005 in)
Exhaust .12-.16 mm (.005-.006 in)
I usually start all gaps in the middle of given specs, then fine tune from there.
Hope this helps

Not charging the battery

more than likely it's you regulator. do an ohms check on the stator ( should be 3 phase ) look for 3 yellow or white wires coming out of the engine. check wire 1 to 2, wire 2 to 3 and wire 1 to 3. you should get numbers not OFL or OL if they all check good. replace the regulator I’m happy to assist further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/robert_5bac37c3cb991fdb

84 honda shadow 700 vt lights are unpredictable

There seems to be some short in the circuit of the high beam, you will have to follow the high beam wiring, best would be to get the color of the high beam wire frm the head light bulb socket and trace it along you will sure find somwhere the along it the short.
Check the light switch and the blinker switch too.
Hope this helps!

The bike runs fine then it just quits running

There may be some water condensate accumulated in the gas tank. Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ). Install an in-line fuel filter. Drain the carbs

The problem could also be electrical. If the gas thing doesn't fix the problem then check the side stand kill switch (if there is one) on your bike. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. If broken or out of adjustment, it could kill the spark at random times. Check for a broken or loose wire at the side stand switch and coupler. Try moving the kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it. Check the fuses. Check the operation of the ignition switch and all kill switches with a volt ohmmeter.

Rear brake light will not come on when rear brake is applied

If your brake lights are not coming when pressing the foot brake this means that there is something wrong with the switch..Have a closer look near the brake lever and you will see a spring attached to it which in turn is connected to the brake switch..Try to pull it down and if you see your brake lights working then you only need to adjust the spring setting..Else try to make a manual close connection and if it goes on then replace the switch..

Will not shift down

This doesn't sound like bent shift forks. That is a very good thing. If the gearbox has to be opened you would be looking at $1500 to $2000. Checking and fixing it yourself as follows might cost you $20. A dealer would charge $100 to $200 or so. Remove the right side casing and then the clutch. I think you will find a broken gearshift return spring #13 or pin #14, gearshift drum stopper spring #10, or gear shift arm spring #12. Any of these parts can be supplied by Babbitt's. Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

Look at "GEARSHIFT DRUM" page. I sincerely hope I am correct in the diagnosis. The dealer route really hurts the wallet. Let me know what you find out.

1984 Honda Shadow VT 700 Shift Problem

Based on the information you have provided I suspect a bent shift fork in your transmission. To fix it you will have to take the transmission cover off and get at that fork. Replacing the fork is probably easiest, the labor to get to it is the expensive part.
